"So it was not vinyl I was asked to repair, it was a single carport exterior trim surround that was encapsulated with fabricated aluminum trim that the installers of the new asphalt driveway had dented up. Having done aluminum fabrication work for 30 years I replied to this job opportunity. On arrival, I saw damaged trim I wrote out a quote to remove and replace both sides and the top header section. I mentioned to the owner this cost would not include the PVC weatherstripping around the perimeter of the door assembly. I told the owner I would carefully try to remove and reinstall but PVC can get brittle with age. Fortunately, I was successful in both the removal and subsequent installation of old weatherstripping. That evening I received a nasty text message from owner stating that the weatherstripping had holes in it and I had cut it short. So yes there were tiny holes from old fasteners but the pieces of stripping were never cut, they were reinstalled to replicate what he had prior to my arrival. During my discussion with the owner, I requested he pick up new weatherstripping and I would come out and install for additional fee. His position was I never should have cut trim nor install it therefore my problem....fix it. So after years in the construction business this was a Red flag moment!! Realizing he still owed me for 1/2 the cost of new trim work I decided to walk away leaving remainder on the table. This was not good enough for owner he was exactly That red flag guy."
