The TV Installation Specialists of Boston

I called the service provider. He gave me the name, Art on the phone. We spoke about my dilemma and I first told him that I may need a ceiling mount for the TV because a Best Buy Geek Squad employee told me that the studs in my wall were too far apart for the mount I had. Art gave good advice and referred me to a site where I could get a cheaper mount for the wall. He advised that the ceiling mount was not necessary. He quoted me a price window of $150 to $170 depending on how tough the job was. He told me he'd give me the price before he started the process. He arrived as scheduled, this time his name was Zach, and had the proper equipment to mount the TV. I was honest and told him that I saved by not going through Best Buy and the Geek Squad for the mount itself and the TV. He had trouble using his mechanical device to find the studs in the wall. It seemed that the stud finder would not detect the studs properly. There were studs in the wall though. After a long time trying to use the stud finder to find the studs, things were off and running, and the process went smooth from there. He made a mess of the wall with his pencil and he leans on the wall making fingerprints a lot, and the mount was getting paint all over the wall. He had no equipment for clean up afterward with the dust and so on. I did the cleanup in between. In the end, he charged me $200. I didn't argue with him, although Best Buy is doing the same job for $169. The fact that I saved on buying my TV elsewhere and the mount elsewhere, should not have increased the price of the mounting service that we agreed would not be in excess of $170. There were both pros and cons in the transaction. The pros were his recommendations about not going with a ceiling mount, and referring me to a site where I could get a good mount. But, he failed to tell me the price before he began the job as agreed, and he charged me $30 more than a chain store for mounting the TV. His demeanor was a bit short too, and he didn't really listen or accept assistance so well. Otherwise the transaction was professional. I guess I was put off by the fact that the only hard part about mounting my TV was....finding the studs in the wall, and that is the job of his machine, so I'm not sure why I was charged the high end price for the TV mounting. The rest of it went smoothly. He assured me that "next time," he will give me a discount on any services I get from him. I guess we'll see if there is ever a next time. It was a fair service, at an okay price, and professionalism was okay too. It was not the deal of the century or the cheapest deal around, and I let him know that, but the TV is mounted, so life goes on. I'm sort of neutral on this one. You can decide for yourself.
