L & S Hardwood Floor Specialist

L&S was great.  This is my third time using them over the past 10 years.  They have consistently done great work at a reasonable price.  D*** takes great pride in his work.  The only challenge is that because they do great work, they are often fully booked and may be tough to schedule.

L&S was great.  They are professional, reasonably priced and D*** takes great pride in his work.  I have recommended them to many other homeowners and all of them have been thrilled with the quality and price.

The owner, D***, was very courteous and professional. He thoroughly explained the entire process including the choice of equipment and materials. His family has been in the flooring business for many years and he really knew his stuff. We talked about the different types of finishes and settled on semi gloss, perfect for a first floor with lots of windows (previous finish was high gloss which was just blinding). He accommodated a tight timeline and the floors looked amazing afterward! I was very pleased with this company and would definitely hire them again. He also explained how to take care of the floors afterwards to keep them looking good, which I really appreciated. Two things to keep in mind though: 1. They do not clean up wood dust after sanding. D*** told me this (no surprises) but if you don't want to clean this up you might incur an added expense by getting cleaning people in. It took my husband and I two hours to clean up afterwards so not too bad; 2. D*** is busy so he might not get back to you immediately after you text him. I was okay with this but I know it can drive some people nuts; just exercise some patience if you use this company. I will recommend this company to my friends and would definitely use them again myself.

Great.. D*** is very knowledgable and explained what was possible adnfor how much. They did a great job and at a very fair price.

I first booked them for Feb. vacation but had to cancel due to snow and figured i'd better wait until Aprl vacation when I could take a couple days off.  There was no problem in cancelling and when I rescheduled they showed up exactly on time.  Very easy to get in touch with.

The job was supposed to be 4 days, and took a week because of drying time for poly (it's weather related), and scheduling the crew.  We had planned for the kitchen to be out of commission for a week, so it was OK.  We were glad they wanted to get the best result, and not rush through things.  

We are very happy with the work. They were polite, professional, taped off adjacent rooms to try to control spread of dust. It is necessary for homeowner to dust and wipe down every wall and surface in the room that's refinished, because even if people are ultra careful, refinishing makes a lot of fine dust -- but it was worth every bit of time, because our kitchen looks like new and is spotless.

The end result is AWESOME and beautiful.  THANK YOU!

First off, this is the 3rd time I've used L&S over the past five years.  My family recently moved into a 1996 build home that had about 1000 sq. ft of existing hardwood on the 1st floor and 1200 sq. ft of carpet on the 2nd floor.  Worked with d*** to get an estimate to refinish the first floor, rip out and install new hardwood on the 2nd floor, and again was pleased with how responsive he was and his no-pressure approach.  I really appreciated his honesty in working on an estimate, how things would look, etc, how much things would cost, etc.  I didn't bother to call other companies, because in the past, L & S prices have been the best, plus he's done my floors other times, so that's worth the peace of mind.    Of note - this time around, we had the floors stained a darker color and they came out fantastic.  Couldn't be more pleased!
D*** gave me the price, told me the approximate plan of when things would be happening and finished the job when he said he would.  I checked in several times during the install (we hadn't moved into the house yet), and his workers (who I remember did our other house a couple years ago, which to me is a good thing for consistency) were all very pleasant and respectful.  They did their best to leave the house clean, but when you're sanding an entire house, things get dusty.  
As an aside, D***'s no-pressure approach is great. Another example is that D*** didn't even come to pick up the final payment for the job until 2 weeks after completion!  I actually messaged him twice in the two weeks, asking him if he wanted to come pick up the money, both times he said he'd have to pick it up at a later date.  
Overall, another great experience with L & S hardwood.  Really easy to work with, and great outcome.  

We had an extremely positive experience working with D*** and his family/crew.  All were very friendly, honest, and skilled.  There was a bit of mix up on times but L&S went out of there way to make us happy.  The quality of their work is excellent.  No doubt we will use them again and I have recommended them to several friends.

This is the second time I used L&S for my floors. Once again they were reliable, well-priced and did the work in a good amount of time. My wife had a difficult request for them this time, which was to get a very dark stain on the floors while allowing some wood grain to show through. They did a pretty good job with this non-standard requirement. I'll continue to use them in the future.

Overall, I would say this was a fantastic experience- start to finish. I'll start with my one complaint, since everything else was perfect; the clean-up.
Reading some of the other reviews on here left me a bit surprised when thinking about my particular complaint, as it sounds like they are usually pretty great with clean-up. Once my refinishing was done I was left with a thick layer of saw dust and regular dust everywhere- cabinets, counters, walls, ceilings, baseboards, bathtub, sink, ect... I'm not talking a regular amount of dust, I think everything was not cleaned after the sanding was done. I'm actually a little shocked that it didn't get all over the finished product while drying. When I asked them if they would be coming to finish that cleaning, I was told it's my responsibility. That left me with a bad taste in my mouth as I spent 4 hours last night vacuming and wiping down every surface and still have to do another round because the walls and cabinets are still covered and I haven't even started in the bathroom yet. I issued a B for professionalism because I felt that he dismissed my concern a little too easily, probably thinking that it was normal dust.
Now onto everything else. I can say, even despite the clean-up situation, this was the BEST contractor I have ever worked with. Promt responses, quick with an estimate, perfectly on schedule, picked up calls or returned them almost immediately, and was all around a nice, polite, and honest person. I didn't feel 'taken' or 'pitched to' when he came by, like I do with MANY other contractors. He was honest and made valuable suggestions that ultimately will save me money over time. His crew was polite and hardworking and I never felt vulnerable or uneasy leaving them in my home alone.
The finished product is stunning. I have no other words, it's just beautiful. There was one particular area of concern that needed extra attention and it came out beyond my expectations.
Even despite the clean-up issue, this company is on my speed dial and I will be passing his information to anyone that needs it.

The experience from start to finish was A+.  D*** came out to give an estimate, explained the process thoroughly, including the various options.  His team was ready to start on the date promised and finished by the projected completion date.  It's so refreshing to find an owner of a family-owned business so responsive, professional, pleasant, and easy to work with.  It was also great to call him and have him actually pick up the phone more often than not.  I didn't have to deal with the frustration of leaving voice mails or messages and waiting for a day (or more) for a return call.  He was right there to answer my questions.  And the floors look AMAZING!  His team blended the new floor with the old floor so well that we can not tell the difference. I called L&S and D*** Huyng, answered the phone and was available to talk in detail about my job. We scheduled an appointment, and he arrived on time.  I was considering re-finishing two different rooms and he told me that in one case it would not be worth the efforts, and suggested a lower cost alternative that he thought I would be happy with.  The job was located in a building where people lived and I was concerned about dust and dirt and Mr. Huyng said they would clean the area and residents would not see dust.  We agreed he would start the job in a few days and it would take a total of four days before I could occupy the room.  The work went exactly according to schedule, and the finished product exceeded my expectations.  Any questions I had were answered by the crew that worked on the job.  They were always available by phone, and did what they said they would.

The experience with L&S hardwood flooring specialist is absolutely pleasant. All the steps (quotation, installation, cleaning) went very well. 

The whole process from setting up the appointment to completion of the work went well.  The owner and team were very professional and did a good job.  There were a few imperfections but nothing major.

After contacting them based on their high rating on Angie's list, I met with the owner for a quote.  He was very helpful in educating me about what could be done with the floors.  He was professional and very responsive.  I received an estimate on the spot and an official quote by email within a day or two.

The price was fair, the team was professional and the floors look fantastic.  My only complaint (and it is minor) was that they left all of their trash in trash bags here for me to dispose of.  However, that would not prevent me from using them again or recommending them to others.  I chose this team based on the Angie's list reviews and I'm glad I did.

D*** was very responsive, calling me back right away and coming to give an estimate very quickly.  He took the time to explain the options and details and answered all of my questions.  Scheduling was easy and they were able to do the job shortly after I called.  D*** was easily reachable and always called me back immediately if he missed my call.   When I had to reschedule the job, they accommodated the change and were able to come back soon after.  The price was very reasonable compared to other estimates I received.   The craftsmanship on the floor was excellent.  They did a great job matching the wood to the existing hardwood floor, and dealing with a very uneven subfloor.  The finished product is solid and looks beautiful.  You can't tell where the old floor ends and the new one begins.  I would highly recommend L & S to anyone looking for great customer service and reasonably priced and well crafted hardwood floors.

My voice message was promptly returned and an appointment was set up which was also on time.  The job, cost and my set of  business questions  were gone over to my satisfaction. A discussion regarding materials  ended in myself being responsible for the materials since I wanted to select  a color other than the basic red oak. However, L & S advised me how to go about thoat and even offered to pick the wood up An estimate  for the labor was supposed to be sent too me but I never received it.
               Perhaps, it was lost in the  mail or something.

It took a few days but that was because they had to sand throug a painted floor.  But they stuck to their original estimate and were done within a very reasonable amount of time..even with drying time.  We were SO pleased!

D*** was quick to respond to e-mail inquiry.  He was very informative and descriptive during the estimate process.  The repair work was finished quickly.   Before the start of the sanding process, his team sealed off the rest of the house very well which minimized the dust migration outside the room.  The work was completed well and in a timely manner.

There were only a couple minor issues we experienced using this company.  With the exception of the first day, we had to call to see when the team would be coming back each of the following days. There was also some miscommunication as to the final finish that we wanted.  We had asked for semi-gloss and received high gloss.  When we called to ask, we received a quick response and a quick return to our house to add a new coat with our desired finish at no additional cost.  Finally, there was some trash leftover from the repair left in our driveway for a few days.  Again, when questioned, they did come to remove the trash quickly. 

All in all, a good experience and we would definitely use them again.    

L& S refinished our 2nd and 3rd story hardwoods while we were in the house (quite a feat and ordeal, causing other contractors to not even return my call). They were very accomodating to allow us to do the project in 2 stages so we didn't have to move furniture up and down stairs. D***, the owner was very knowledgable and prompt. When I had a concern about the sheen on the stairs - he fixed it the next day. The site was kept neat and tidy, the workers were polite and efficient. And the floors look wonderful (especially our original 125 year old heart pine!). We will be using L&S again once its time to do the 1st floor.

This is the 2nd time I've used DH and L&S hardwood floors.  Called up DH to schedule for an estimate to redo my kitchen and 1/2 bath, but needed him to do the work specifically the week of memorial day, since my wife and 2 young daughters were away for that week, visiting family.  DH came in with the best price, and given that I knew his work from before (see my review for dec. 2009) I went with him.  He was extremely accommodating and fit my necessary time frame.  He advised my to go with unfinished hardwood that would be sealed and polycoated, vs. pre-finished hardwood, since it was for a kitchen application.  The job went off without any problems.  Day 1 the old ceramic tile was removed.  Day 2 the floor was leveled and 80% of the hardwood installed.  day 3 the rest of the wood installed and the floor was sealed, and the first coat of poly applied.  Day 4 was a day for the poly to fully cure/dry, so no work was done.  Day 5 (a saturday), the guys game out to do the final coat of poly (takes less than 1 hr).  Given the excellent weather during the week of the job (Dry, temps around 80's during the day), the poly dried by sunday afternoon.  Floor looks great!  Huge cosmetic difference vs. my circa 1997 tile.  The hardwood floor is exactly level with the existing hardwoods from the living room, dining room and hallway.  it's amazing and other than the fact that the new kitchen floor is gleaming (cause of the new poly), you wouldn't know that the floors were installed at different times!

I would recommend this company in a heartbeat.   As with any other contractor, I would suggest making sure you know what you as the homeowner has to do.  For example, DH told me straight up, that I would be responsible for disposing the old ceramic tile.  Also, I actually moved the fridge out of the kitchen, and removed the toilet from the bathroom prior to them starting the job.  They did remove some doors in order to do the job, and offered to come back to reinstall them, but it was easy enough for me to do. 

Overall, another great experience working with L&S hardwood floors.  When my sister is done renovating her kitchen and needs a floor guy, I know exactly who to call.

My floor looked horrible before. Rotten here and there and parquet pieces unglued and coming off, etc. I didn't even think it was possible to repair. On top of that, this is a 9.5" parquet that nobody makes anymore. I had a quote from 2 other places. One quoted $1900 and cannot guarantee that the work can be done until they find the matching wood. The other didn't even try. He said he would come back with a quote and never did. LS came out and told us that the work can be done. They said it with such confidence that we were hesitant at first, but we had no other option at the time. 2 guys came out to do the work. They were puntual, professional, and nice. The work was done when they said they would, and the floor looks great. I am most impressed with the patching work they've done. They did a good job finding the wood that matches. I would definitely hire these guys again. Highly recommended.
