A two month project took over 5 months for no given reason. Workers would not show up for weeks, despite phone calls to company owner. Workers sent were clearly day laborers, not company employees. They lacked skills, professionalism and sense of respect for our homes, leaving a mess behind and destroying our outdoor spaces.
Contractor is not lead-certified as he should be in Massachusetts by law. A child in the building came back with elevated lead levels in his blood during the construction - building was tested and the exterior window frames were full of lead. The contractor failed to notify the tenants of the building of this risk or reality. A lead abatement firm had to be hired to do a full clean-up before two tenants (with child and pregnant) could move back in (we were homeless as a result for a total of two weeks).
Ultimately, we fired Gardner McKinney - the job was incomplete at this point. We are having to hire a new mason contractor to finish the work once the weather warms up again next year.
This experience was extremely stressful and costly for our entire 5 condo building.
