that you can imagine. I almost feel compelled to write a formal essay
detailing the complete narrative of how they made our once dreary kitchen a
bright, cheery one. Seriously. It has almost been a magical
transformation, with work including the installation of all new cabinets,
building out a bulkhead, installing new appliances, building exhaust outlets,
putting in hardwood flooring, doing a tile backsplash, installing new wainscotting and overseeing the
work of electrical contractors.
So please do read a level of awe into the more prosaic descriptions below of
the work.
Here are some reasons why Boston Handyworks will ALWAYS be our go to
contractors for any kind of work around our home for the forseeable future.
1. Highest level of professionalism by key staff.
We started by designing our kitchen with the Boston Building Resource Center
(itself another A+ organization in our books) and ordered some reasonably
priced custom cabinets and stone countertops from them. With the plans
that were drawn up there, we put them in the extremely capable hands of Nick
and John, the gentlemen who both provided the onsite expertise, communication
with us and also the directed on-site training of the other workers. From
start to finish, John and Nick couldn't have been more professional, courteous
and expert in their work. No question or idea was ever dismissed and they
took it upon themselves, as much as they did the quality of the work, to make
sure we were comfortable with every decision. I can't reiterate enough
how wonderful and irreplaceable these two gentlemen were for towards the
success of the renovation project. And they are just good, good
people.
2. Quality of work.
I wish I could attach some photos here to attest to the quality of the
finished product. We couldn't be happier. Not even a little
bit. Besides navigating the challenges of bringing an intended design on
paper to life in the constraints/realities/surprises of a construction site, I
can't think of one single thing that wasn't done professionally, at the highest
level of quality and with care. It was as if the workers were building a
kitchen in their own homes.
3. Mission of the organization.
Boston Handyworks is a job retraining program and is part of the Pine Street
Inn organization, the Boston area's largest shelter, retraining program and
outreach center for homeless men and women in New England. A key element
of the Handyworks program is to provide expert, supervised initial and then
on-the-job training for individuals who are part of this training
program. The end goal is to not only provide an on-the-job apprenticeship
for selected men and women of Pine Street Inn, but to ultimately give the
participants the skills, confidence and networks to find full time employment
at the end of the program.
All the participants we met from the program in our home were unfailingly
professional, polite and real. This mission of the Handyworks program was
something that strongly appealed to us.
4. Cost
I don't believe we could have had the same caliber of work done for the same
price by any other contractor or business service. We got some rough
estimates elsewhere which Handyworks handily beat but even if we had a
comparable price quote, after our experience with them, we would go with
Handyworks hands down.
5. Intangibles
All the above clearly lead to us rating Boston Handyworks at the highest
possible level. But even still, there's something else as a whole that
made their work for us all the more special. For us, they were not only
excellent contractors but members of the local community that we've come to
know, respect and consider friends.
Go with Boston Handyworks. Support its mission, the individuals it serves
and its employees and you'll get more out of it than you can imagine.
"Dear Customer, I realize your post is over a year old, but I want to apologize for not getting back to you. We make every effort to respond to every customer inquiry. We had just launched our website last year and the inquiry must not have reached anyone to respond. If you ever have any home maintenance needs in the future, please keep us in mind. Feel free to email me directly at [email protected]. Thank you, Nick"
