We had used Big City Moving once before when we moved into our Allston condo 5 years ago. They did a great job then and did an excellent job this time around as well. We scheduled the move in late May since we weren't sure how busy it was going to be with all the students moving in June. Brendan was very responsive, and gave us a quote which was very reasonable $129/hour. The movers were supposed to be there between 8:30 and 9. Around 9 Brendan called and said that his team was running late and would be there around 10. They showed up just after 10am and worked straight through the day. Not only did they move everything out of our apartment but they also moved everything out of a small storage unit we had down the street. I have no idea how they managed to get our huge dining room table out of our apt without taking it apart but they pulled it off without any damage! Because they were late that morning the three moving guys (Adam Cedric & Mike) didn't stop for lunch until they had nearly everything moved into our new place around 3pm (we actually ordered pizza for ourselves and them and they stopped to eat then). Over all these guys moved all of our furniture into our new place, put boxes in the rooms designated and did a great job. Nothing was broken or damaged. I highly, recommend them. Thank you Big City!

Big City Moving did a fantastic job. In addition to providing all the packing materials we'd need in ample supply, they're office was good enough to call a few days before the move and make sure we had everything we needed, and offered to send someone over if we needed an extra hand. On move day they were on time, actually a few minutes early so that they had time to set up the truck and assess the situation. They took special care of my precious TV and other audio/visual treasures, and the crew of 3 busted out the move in quick time - but did so cautiously and diligently. They packed their own lunches, which was impressive because most movers disappear for at least an hour. At the new home they, again, assessed the situation, and took direction from my wife and I on where to put our many many items and boxes. They went the extra mile with a few things, being super helpful to my wife especially. Seriously, great service, really pleasant crew - they made us feel very comfortable and not like pains in the butts!

They were 10 minutes late, but otherwise I have no complaints. The elevator in my old building had broken the night before so they weren't able to use it but that did not seem to faze them. The guys worked quickly, carefully, and efficiently. They had everything from the old apartment in their truck within two hours. They did get proper parking permits for the new location but someone had ripped them down, so parking was a bit tricky but they managed. They got everything unpacked in a few hours even having to carry it all up four floors, working with a much smaller location than the old apartment, and having to work around the cable guy who'd arrived much earlier than expected. Nothing was damaged in any way, they wrapped up my rather large dresser and mirror very well. The final price was much less than I was expecting so that was a nice surprise (the price without my 20% off coupon was still far less than expected.) Overall an excellent experience and I'll definitely be using them again in the future and I recommend them highly.

This company was overpriced compared to my previous experience with other moving companies. They courteously called ahead to report that they were stuck in traffic and would arrive late. When they arrived I worked alongside them moving boxes and furniture and was extremely disappointed in the work ethic of the two movers. The team leader who was loading the pods was reasonably efficient and all three of them were polite, but the two workers spent as much time on breaks as they spent working. The leader loading the pods repeatedly asked them to bring large boxes and furniture, but the workers kept bringing small items and taking breaks, and avoided bringing the large items as requested until the very end. Due to the frequent breaks of the workers, our estimated three hour move turned into nearly double that amount of time. This was significantly slower than other moving companies I have worked with. It is worth noting that we spent six hours only loading storage pods, not completing a one-way move. Every box was pre-packed and furniture that could be broken down, like beds, was done before the movers arrived. Before signing the form I called the company's office to express my dissatisfaction. The office worker reduced the hourly rate by ten dollars, amounting to a savings of about $70 on a bill that totaled $763.

Response from BIG CITY MOVING COMPANY
"In response to the customer mentioning our tardiness we would like to explain that we were in fact late and how and why this is so: On an average day, we typically have two appointment slots, a morning and an afternoon. We almost always make it to the first appointment of the day on time. However, we give our customers a "window" of arrival for the second job of the day. We do this because there is no way for us to be totally precise as to how long that first job will actually take. We do our best to to determine this by gathering as much information as possible to make an informed decision. The reality is that there are so many variables and different things that can occur on a job that can slow it down or speed it up. Not all of these are within our control. For example; a customer gives us an inaccurate inventory and neglects to inform us that the apartment is on the 4th floor with no elevator and a 100 foot walk to where we can legally park our truck. We do our best to cope in these types of situations. Our contract and confirmation both state this policy clearly... "Please be aware that arrival times are estimated, as there is no formula to determine the exact duration of jobs scheduled prior to yours." In addition, we make each customer aware of this over the phone. We try to be as exact as we can and usually fall within two hours of scheduled time. We also always call at least an hour prior to our estimated arrival for an update."

I purchased some really nice furniture from a few stores in Natick, Ma and needed to have it delivered to my home. It was too much for my husband and I to handle and wanted a mover who would take extra good care of it. I did a web search and found a few companies in the area including Big City. The man who answered the phone was very pleasant, informative and helpful. Their rates were quite reasonable and they were very flexible and worked with my schedule to arrange pick-up and delivery. They took the time to individually wrap all of the fragile pieces before the loaded the truck and even set up everything exactly where we wanted it in our home. They also took some old furniture off of our hands for us. The service they provided was well worth the cost. I would recommend them to anyone.

It was a small job that really worked out. They were very professional and very willing. There were some additional things that needed doing that I overlooked and they were right on it.
