John Connelly

We found John by chance via an online posting of similar work he had done for another customer. We contacted him and began to work together on designing the cabinet we wanted. In every facet of the project, John is absolutely meticulous and is extremely focused on detail. He has a very experienced eye and was able to guide us through the design process, visiting our house both to get an initial feel for the space and to help us brainstorm on how best to utilize the space in accordance with our goals for the unit. Once that process was completed John set to work designing a prototype using CAD and sent us detailed drawings with measurements and a 3D drawing of how the unit would look in our space. He then came to our house again with a cardboard template that gave us an exact picture of the footprint the unit would have. This was also very help in determining where we would need to move our outlet boxes to ensure we were compliant with code and to optimize the space behind the unit where the various plugs and wires would be stored. We gave John the exact model of our TV and he built that portion of the cabinet to allow for proper venting/cooling spaces for that exact unit and with custom cut-outs and dropdowns for the cables that would need to be plugged in. He even reviewed the specifications of the mounting brackets and drew precise markers on the finished unit to show me exactly where the mounting screws needed to be installed to properly center the TV with the unit. Once the finer details were decided, he set to building the unit and we scheduled an install date. His focus on detail was again evident during the installation. From the exactling application of shims to center and level the unit to the cutting and measuring of the custom trim applied, John's work was meticulous. John is an absolute craftsman and he is very particular about how he does his work and the time that he needs to do a job. He will not cut corners to fit to a truncated schedule and will not do things during the install that would jeopardize the quaility of the end product in any way. I think some of the hard scheduling requirements associated with our job pushed him, but he did not give in and that caused some frustration for us - but in the end the results came out perfectly. I can't imagine someone doing a better job than John did, especially for what I felt was tremendous value. I think John is selective about the jobs he takes, but if you have an opportunity to work with him and you have the patience to allow him the time and space he needs to do his work, you will be amazed by the results.
