"Thanks for posting [Member Name Removed]! It was great getting to know your family as well! You guys were a pleasure to work for!"
Upon removing all of the old decking material and railings from the deck and around our pool, they found that the framing under the deck needed to be replaced in places, which included additional cement columns to support the new floor joists. They also found that the original deck framing did not meet current code, which required that they add new hangers and to use galvanized nails on all of both old and new framed joints. The prior deck build did not use the proper fastening techniques and the CC team made sure that those techniques were fixed. The result was a very sturdy code-compliant deck frame.
Aside from installing the new composite decking, the project also involved rebuilding a defective staircase, re-installing three cast iron gates and building a frame for and then installing composite lattice work under the deck. The CC team used a picture frame technique to install the new decking, which added a nice finished look to the new deck area. The new staircase is solid and perfectly sized for the space from our deck to a small patio area. The lattice work is firmly supported by the new framing that the team installed and it is smartly trimmed. The look of the renovated deck is impressive. All of the trim around the deck and on all of the railings around the pool was carefully thought out and installed. A high quality job all around.
Lastly, we asked the CC team to build us a grill station that would compliment the new deck. They did a terrific job building a safe fireproof enclosure with cutouts for our new grills. Isaac also arranged for a stone company to build and install a beautiful stone counter top for the station. The result is an outstanding looking and very functional grill station that is a focal point on our new deck.
Great Job!
Custom Concepts recently added an in-law apartment and a three season porch to our home, and from initial estimate to completed construction, we couldn't be happier. Isaac, Josh (the site foreman) and Mark all did superior work and we're thrilled with the result.
We sought several estimates, and Isaac's was the most well organized and detailed of the lot; and if I remember correctly the lowest or very close. He and Josh kept us well informed through the process and also kept very close to budget. Except for a design feature (handicap entrance ramp) that we forgot at the beginning (and our choice of more expensive windows and doors) we were within a few percent of the original estimate. Additionally the project was completed right on schedule (actually a couple of days early!). Finally, the impact on our existing living space was kept to a minimum. This type of renovation is naturally invasive but they planned the work so that the periods of disruption were well prepared for and as brief as possible.
Several times during construction we had questions or decisions to make about design aspects and in virtually every case the advice we got from Isaac and Josh turned out to be the right way to go. Isaac recommended urethane foam insulation and despite the higher cost relative to pink fiberglass it was absolutely the best choice. Our heating bill with the extra square footage is actually down - and the three season porch is usable with a small space heater until the outside temp is down to below 10 degrees.
The finished project is beautiful. My mother-in-law loves the new place and it is meeting all her needs. Everyone who sees the apartment and porch remarks on the quality of workmanship. Bottom line: we would certainly recommend that anyone contemplating a large or small renovation project or addition give them a call for an estimate and consider them for the job.
The plan was to start in early June 2013, but rainy weather slowed down that process. Once they were able to get going the rain continued regularly and to protect their work and our belongings they covered the work area in the largest blue tarp I've ever seen! Even though the rain slowed down the progress Isaac stayed in touch and kept me posted about what and when they'd be able to get work done. He never once disappeared!! He was always responsive to any of our concerns and even along the way if we wanted to add or change something he was willing to try and meet our request.
The bulk of the project was done outside but during the final two weeks they needed to come through the house to attach everything. During this time the guys were clean. They always laid down tarp or plastic to protect my carpet. They boarded things up to keep my very curious children out of areas that were dangerous. It was honestly as clean as a construction project could be. Even the subcontractors that came in were professional and respectful of my space.
In the end, I have two nice sized bedrooms over my garage with ample closet space, great natural light, and nice high ceilings. Our deadline was met, and Custom Concepts has another huge check plus in my book. In all the project took about 3 months to complete. It looks wonderful. The siding matches the rest of the house so you can't even tell it was an addition. I have nothing but positive feedback for my experience and would gladly work with them again and again!!
We contracted with Isaac Low from Custom Concepts for the first project in February of 2012. When Isaac provided the estimate for the cost and timeline he was right on with both. The crew from Custom Concepts started the work on the thursday before the Super Bowl and by friday had all the demo completed and repaired some carpenter ant damage that we didn't know about. by the time the following week rolled around, the work picked right up and the area was ready for paint by the following Thursday. The one issue that we encountered during the work wasn't due to Custom Concepts, rather the big box store we used to order our flooring through. When we ordered the floor we were told it was in stock, then told it was special order and will take two weeks. Well a month later, when the flooring finally arrived, Isaac and Custom Concepts were able to complete the final step of the project. Despite the added time waiting on the floor, the work came out great and we are very happy with the results.
Shortly after completing the project in the family room, we started the planning for the second floor remodel. This took a lot longer due to the larger scope of the work and the additional financing needed. The design phase went great, Isaac provided us with several options that ranged in price from $35,000-$95,000. Once we decided on a design, we had to work on the financing. This was the hardest part of the project. When the work finally started, Custom Concepts and Isaac were great. My family was under a very hard time limit as my wife was due with our second child and the due date was also the proposed completion date of the work. Isaac was able to take the most stressful period of the year and reduce that just a little with his management of the project. There were very few days when there was no work taking place. Isaac was able to schedule the work and keep the project progressing constantly. There was even a hurdle that was unforseen when the building inspector required the inclusion of hard wired smoke detectors throughout the entire house. This change could have pushed us back a few weeks but the electricians where there the next day pulling wires and installing smoke, carbon monoxide, and heat detectors in nearly every room of the house. This provides a little insight into how the sub contractors feel about working with Isaac Low and Custom Concepts, to make time on short notice to keep a project moving is telling on how he treats his employees. The project was complete on time and within 10% of the original estimate (the majority being the smoke detector addition.)
I would have no reservations about contacting Isaac Low again in the future for any additional work we have planned on our home!
