Stick Built Construction

During a storm last October, a huge oak fell on our house. Chris from Stick Built came recommended so we hired him. His team was fast and professional in getting our house sealed up so we could move back in, and then working around us as he rebuilt the two bedrooms that were damaged. His price was fair and he worked with the town inspectors very well (and they knew and trusted him). The following spring we brought him back to finish half of our basement and the work was equally well done. He worked with us as we scoped the project, was responsive to us and the subcontractors doing specialty work (plumbing, electrical, plaster), and I never had any reservations giving him access to the house while we were away. We're very happy with both projects he worked on, now that we've lived with them for awhile. We would (and have) recommend him to our friends and anyone looking for construction work.

Stick Built Construction was brought in as a sub-contractor by S + H. Their job was to do a porch repair on our condo. The job quickly escalated when Stick Built discovered a major structural deficiency. An engineer was brought in, and drawings supplied to address the problem. Alarmingly to us at the condo, the repair would have to be relatively invasive. The job entailed exposing, and cutting into the 100 year old frame of the house. Fears of spiraling budgets, and long lead times were aired at the condo meeting. But we had no choice but to address the problem. We elected to go ahead with Stick Built, due to the superior job they had done on another tricky piece of repair work they had recently completed. Part of what gave us confidence was the the owner of Stick Built, Chris, with 30 years framing experience, personally managed his team, as well as working on site, for all his jobs. To our amazement, within five days of receiving drawings back from the engineer, the job was complete, at 30% under budget. The team worked like a fine-tuned machine. When the moment-of-truth arrived, fitting a massive 16' long beam of engineered lumber into a tricky frame alignment, the piece dropped snugly with just a few blows from a rubber mallet. At the end of each day, the work site was completely clean, Chris's team worked at lightning speed and accuracy, there was no need to chase Stick Built on any detail at the end of the job, and there was clearly no billing funny-business at the end of the job. In short, for major or minor carpentry projects, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better contractor. The only negative I heard with that Chris has low patience level for delays, imposed by either customer, or general contractor. He likes to get in, complete the job, get out. If you are unclear about the nature of your job, or require hand-holding, he is probably not your man.
