We hired Steve Richard to remodel our second floor bathroom. We found Steve via a friend who had hired him to do a similar remodel on their bathroom. We did talk to several other contractors. In the end, we went with Steve based on price and the high recommendations from our friends. Our second floor bathroom is our only full bathroom. Steve was very considerate of our needs. Throughout the job, at the end of each day, he hung plastic around the shower area and put down tarps on the floor so that we could have continued access to the bath and shower. He also did a great job keeping the work area and the surrounding parts of our house clean. I was surprised at how clean our house remained throughout the remodeling. Steve was very punctual and always showed up when he said he would. Throughout the project, it was clear that our job was his first priority. With the exception of a few times when work had to stop to wait for other contractors to complete their work, Steve was at our house daily. He was also present whenever any other contractors were working on the house (plumber, electrician, plasterer). The job took a little longer than we had originally expected-- about 4 weeks. This was largely driven by two factors-- the Thanksgiving holidays and coordination with other contractors. Apparently, the plasterer was in high demand around the time of our project. So, that delayed us for a few days. But, as I said above, Steve worked hard to make sure that we were able to use the bath/shower throughout the project. So, the extra delay was not really a hardship. The quality of the work done is outstanding. Steve did a great job with all of the carpentry and tiling. He also closely monitored the quality of the work done by other contractors, following up on a few small issues to ensure that they were resolved to our satisfaction. One issue that came up early on in our project involved the bathroom window that Steve replaced. We had wanted a window with obscured glass. Steve put in a window with clear glass. Once we discovered this (several days after the installation) we brought it to Steve's attention. Steve did not remember us asking for obscured glass and said that he had not written this down in his notes. Our contract also did not specify that we wanted the obscured glass. Nevertheless, Steve was absolutely concerned that we get what we wanted. He insisted on replacing the sash with new one at his own cost. In the end, we decided that we may not have been entirely clear about our desire for obscured glass in our initial discussions with Steve-- we had discussed the project several contractors and we may have left this detail out in our conversation with Steve. So, we agreed to split the cost of the new sash with Steve. Steve also returned a few days after the work was completed to follow up on any problems/concerns that we may have uncovered. At that time, we gave him a list of very minor issues that he promptly addressed. We are completely satisfied with the work done by Steve Richard. I tend to be hard to please when it comes to working on the house. I generally find that the only way to get what I really want is to do it myself. Thus, I was a little reluctant to hire a general contractor to do the bathroom remodel. Nevertheless, Steve exceeded my expectations in every way. We will definitely be working with Steve Richard again in the future.
