Prior to selling this house to us, Tom had only ever had one real estate transaction before and his inexperience was evident throughout the process. Tom failed to disclose that the third bedroom of the house was not heated until after we had made an offer. When a couple of necessary repairs were identified during the home inspection (including a gas leak in the kitchen and very old knob and tube wiring that would have meant that no insurance company would have been willing to sell us homeowners insurance), Tom refused to fix any of these safety/code issues (the seller?s lawyer then told us that of course they would fix them). He sent nasty emails to our realtor that included disparaging (and inaccurate) assumptions about my husband and my spending habits and how they might impact our ability to purchase the home at the price he wanted for it -- it got to the point that our realtor eventually had to address with him how unprofessional he was being. I recognize that Tom?s function was to represent the interest of the sellers, but they, too, were so dissatisfied with him that, once we made an offer, the sellers began using their lawyer as the go-between and pretty much keeping Tom out of the process. Because Tom is so new to real estate, we kept thinking we should give him the benefit of the doubt, but ultimately we found ourselves apologizing to our realtor for choosing a house that forced her to work with him.
