GILLIS LANDSCAPING & LAWNCARE

The sod went in fine and made it through the winter.  Late last summer even with watering and fertilizing  (with the advice of Gillis and buying the correct fertilizer from them) the sod turned yellow. Since many other lawns in the area had turned the same color we had high hopes it would come back this spring.  This year we raked it out as we normally would  and it seemed like it might come back.  About a week later we started seeing the sod lines and panic set in.  We had spent all this money and this grass appears to be dead.  We went back to Gillis with detailed pictures and explained our situation.  After coming up with every reason why it was our fault (too much water, not enough water, too much fertilizer, not enough fertilizer ) he agreed to call the "sod guy" and call us that week.  He said to us as we were leaving and I quote "we will work with you".  Next week will be the fourth week without a phone call from them.  All we wanted was to know how to proceed...we didn't want a freebie, although a discount would have been nice,  just wanted help fixing our lawn.   So much time has been spent calling other landscapers I'm not sure we will have a lawn this summer.  I'm just so disappointed that a local guy could treat us so poorly.

Professional and very capable group. Uses snail mail for quotes so expect to take some time to get the job started. Arrived in person on the job with more than enough labor to work fast, efficiently and also do a great job.
Also gave recommendations to other service providers for tasks that Gillis would not perform.
Will use again in the spring of 2014.

I called to ask for an estimate for a project of considerable scope. I was told that the owners met in the evening and one would call back the next day. Nobody called. I called back. Same information, nobody called. I called back again and finally got a date for two weeks later. Expressed disappointment that it would take two weeks to even get an estimate given that they might not even take the job. They couldn't do better so I hung up and immediately made a calendar entry on my office computer so I would not forget (important point). Left work early to the inconvenience of colleagues on the day of appointment but with some excitement that I might be able to get this project started. Nobody showed up. I called the office and they said 4:30 was an unusual time for an appointment but they had no record I had ever called them. Seems I can't even give money away. Thanks for setting me back two weeks guys.

Right from the beginning Matt Gillis was great, he came out to the house and listened to what we wanted, offered other ideas for us to think about. Once we decided, Matt was very quick in getting us a detailed quote and a rough idea as to when the job would be completed. About a week before the job was going to start Matt called and confirmed everything again and set a time in place. The day before Matt called and told us what time they would show to start the job. Matt and crew showed the next day and within 5hours the job was completed and you would have never known they were here except for a beautiful new walkway. Matt and his team were very professional and I would highly recommend them.

Matt came out to the house to do an estimate soon after I called. He was professional and very nice. He listened to what types of plants we wanted and designed a beautiful garden. It took longer than expected to get the estimate and rather than having the installation done in July as was planned, it was early August, but that is understandable since it is a very busy season for them. They came with a lot of workmen and very quickly prepared the beds and put in the plants. The work was well done and they cleaned up nicely. All the workmen seemed very nice and friendly.

the gillis' are great. they came in on friday and tore up the walkway, and came in monday and put down all the pavers. they brought in a big crew, and worked efficiently. the owners were there doing the work, and they seemed to creat a nice work environment. we had them put in another walkway in the back yard fifteen years ago, and it has held up beautifully. the work they did was beautiful, and we would hire them again in a heartbeat.
