I contacted him again to do some cleanup from last years storms, remove some shrubs and a couple trees, and freshen up the landscaping.  I had arranged a meeting with him to do a quote and he never showed.  I talked to him on the phone and he apologized and said he'd call me back the next week to reschedule.  He never called and in-fact didn't respond to several calls to contact him.  This was a good size project, that would have kept his crew busy a few days.
While he has provided decent service in the past, I no longer view him as a reliable contractor.  I've taken my business elsewhere.

Owner was very attentive during the quoting process
During the quote phase, the owner told us to do business with him since he was local, living in the same town, and he would guarantee his work.
Did perform all work as described in estimate
Did respond to first call for follow up service after completion of work
Did not answer calls or respond to subsequent calls regarding dissatisfaction with the quality of the lawn and concerns with the proper operation of the irrigation system
We had to hire another company to "clean-up" the sloppy work with the irrigation system and we have to spend additional money to buy lawn treatments to eliminate crab grass which is prominent throughout the lawn
He does not stand by his word
He does take the money and run
