Description of Work: My 2-unit condo building had been getting small puddles of water in the basement when it rained heavily. The dampness had required us to put a dehumidifier in the basement to keep it dry, so that we could still store things down there without worrying about mold issues. However, we noticed that the electric bill for the dehumidifier was so high, that we wanted to look into whether other solutions made financial sense. We checked with several basement dryness companies, but Mark Betts had a unique idea - he suggested that instead of doing waterproofing in the basement, that we redo the cracked concrete sidewalk by the rear side of the house, which was suspiciously close to the leakiest spot in the basement. Mark's idea was that most of the water entering the basement was coming through the cracks in that concrete, and by fixing the concrete, that water would be routed elsewhere, away from the house. This plan also had the benefit of costing 1/3 of any of the basement waterproofing quotes we got (which were all french drain systems). So, we went with it! The only slight issue I encountered were some communication delays with Mark when I was trying to get the work scheduled. I emailed Mark several times over 2 weeks before he replied. He did apologize for the delay in getting back to me.

Description of Work: I hired EC Betts to conduct the following work: (1) replace the concrete threshold in front of our front stairs with a properly sloped, blue stone tread; (2) replace the street-side concrete retaining walls with field stone walls, (3) build a red-brick pathway from the front threshold around the side of the house, through the garden, leading up to our deck. While the replacement of the stair threshold was a "fix-it" project, the remaining work on the walls and pathway were beautification projects.

Description of Work: Remove rotted basement window, pour concrete to fill window well, repair basement wall to block window opening.

Description of Work: My concrete garage is very old and required significant repointing, rebuilding a large section of one wall, and both brick and concrete work above the garage doors. I needed the work done in the late fall just as the weather was turning cold. I contacted three companies for an estimate before selecting E.B. Betts. Mark Betts returned my call right away and was the most responsive in terms of answering my questions about the scope of work.
