talent; and I spent a lot of dough in the process. I have been highly satisfied with every visit to Bellingham Imports, from routine maintenance to (regrettably) major repairs.
Everyone with a German car knows Bellingham Imports because they have specialized in them for so long. They
have performed great work on my US, Japanese and German cars – fwd, awd and rear drive. Over the years, expert repairs have included suspension, (totally screwed up by a German car specialist in Providence), brakes, (screwed up by a VW shop near Smithfield, electrics and clutch replacement. I wish they were closer to where I live, but given the fact that they get it right the
first time, I save real time and money with them. I highly recommend Bellingham Imports without reservation. They are excellent at their craft and good, honest business people. NOT an easy combination to find. There is almost always something interesting in their yard too, but their bread and butter is daily drivers. Great service is hard to find at any price. The fact that Chris and Henri will save you time and money make them, and their clients winners.
Henry did not take a dime for checking my vehicle a month later (for strange smell - which ended up a plastic bag wrapped around the exhaust pipe). He also checked for the leaks for free. These guys have a very clean facility. High quality work. I could not be more happy! I will certainly use them in the future (although their facility is a long drive from me), and will recommend them to everyone I know!
In April of 2010, they replaced the timing belt, water pump, one of the lower ball joints, air filter, and coolant in my Hyundai Santa Fe for $820. In July of 2011, I noticed a wet spot on the pavement beneath the engine compartment directly beneath the timing belt.
In early August, another mechanic who performed work on this vehicle confirmed that the water pump was leaking, that is was a bad leak, and that I shouldn't drive it any great distances. This mechanic told me that the water pump might still be covered by a warranty.
I called Henry the proprietary who with his son Matt owns and operates Bellingham Imports to describe the problem and made an appointment to have the car worked on. Though they couldn't take the car for three weeks due to a backlog of work, Matt did ask me to bring the car in sooner if the leak worsened and to monitor the coolant level carefully until then. Matt told me that though the water pump, which was a factory part made for Hyundai and not an after-market part, was out of warranty, he would and quot;helpand quot; cover the cost of labor and parts to install a new water pump as long as I still had the receipt for the original work, which I had saved, so that he could obtain another water pump from the manufacturer at no cost.
Meanwhile I drove the vehicle about another 1,000 miles before the appointment replacing about two cups of coolant during that time. I brought the car in to Bellingham Imports on Sept. 2, Matt installed the new water pump and I picked up the vehicle the same day. The cost to me for parts and labor: $0.00.
Postscript: Matt told me that it is not uncommon for leaks to develop around the seals of water pumps but for the leak to stop once there is enough wear on it for it to seal itself.
