About us
Century Carpet is owned by husband and wife Jean & Christine Coutu. They have been in the flooring business for over 30 years. Even before graduating high school Jean was installing, and learning the business, Jean worked many years for other stores in the area, with the help of his wife Christine. The couple decided though that the only way they can be sure the customer is taken care of properly, is to handle everything personally from sale to installation. With that thought in mind on October 1st, 1986 Century Carpet was born. Since then Jean & Christine have worked hard to build their business, and their reputation. Century Carpet has made it's home in Ayer, Massachusetts for over 20 years. During that time they have built the business, and raised their three children. They taught all three of their children the flooring business. Their oldest son Brian runs one of the installation teams, and their youngest son Kyle is working his way up to flooring mechanics as well. You can even see their grandson lending a hand once in a while. The staff at Century Carpet is friendly and knowledgeable. Andrea who has been with the company for over 18 years, can take care of the customers flooring needs from sale to post installation. You will also find Katie and Naomi, who will assist you from you initial visit to the showroom all the way to installation with any of your design and flooring needs, having both been in the flooring business for many years. Century Carpet was fantastic! When I first went into the store, the associate Katie was so warm and friendly. She was helpful and honest, and took into consideration my likes and dislikes and guided me perfectly. The entire process was very smooth from start to finish! The gentleman that came out to measure was friendly and professional, and the same goes for the installer. I am so happy with how my new carpeting looks and I would highly recommend Century Carpet to anyone. Two thumbs up!!

Outstanding! The store front service was professional, attentive, and knowledgeable. The onsite assessment and quote was fast and accurate. The installation went smoothly and efficiently. Three days were reserved for the install, and the installer was finished in two days. The installer was professional, courteous, experienced, and genuinely enthused for our product choice and motivated to install. All in all, a great experience I would do over again!!

We remodeled our house including replacing all flooring in a 2-story house, over a 3-year period. Century Carpet provided all the materials and labor to replace our flooring. In addition, they supplied the materials and labor to install our remodeled kitchen tile backsplash. The knowledgeable and patient show room staff helped educate us about the merits of various types of flooring and alternative choices. The show room had a wide selection of offerings and the staff had an excellent sense of aesthetics as well as technical knowledge about the various materials. The installers were on time and worked to keep flooring “mess” to a minimum as we staged the replacement efforts while we lived in the house – a challenge that they rose to. The crews were knowledgeable and worked with us to accommodate our living needs. I would recommend Century Carpet to anyone interested in doing new or replacement flooring.

I had looked at some other carpet stores but found the selections overwhelming and the staff uninterested in helping me select among them. At Century, I described my requirements and the sales person helped me narrow down the choices very quickly. She was knowledgeable about the options and seemed concerned that I be happy with the choice. Follow up to phone calls was excellent. They ordered larger samples for me so that I could visualize the color with the existing paint. The owner came and measured and made notes on the job himself. The installer was very professional and neat. He left the area completely clean. I will definitely use this service again.

Outstanding customer service from the show room to the installation. The ladies in the showroom made great suggestions on what would work best in our home. The owner was right on time to take all the measurements, and got us the estimate in a timely fashion. (same day!) The installation team, led by John, showed up on time, introduced themselves, told us what to expect, and got the job done in a day and a half. At the end of both days, the house was left tidy and clean. The resulting work looks great. A very pleasant experience from start to finish, and a good value from a price perspective.

Exceptional service from sales to install! Received excellent guidance and service from the moment we walked in the door. The sales person helped us select a beautiful tile, within our price range, that went really well with the granite and cabinets we were planning to install. The demolition team was very careful and professional. We had severe leveling issues and this team did an amazing job at bringing an undulating floor to a workable surface. They were prompt, thoughtful, and careful to protect and clean up as they went. We had some minor scheduling issues with install, as we were coordinating with other contractors, but everyone worked together and we got there, only one day behind. (The installer did a fantastic job, and was well worth the delay!!) Overall the job was well done, and we would definitely recommend Century!!!

First rate sales experience. Their showroom is great and the sales woman had a nice balance of help and information without pressure. They scheduled us quickly which was appreciated. The only hiccup was that the truck broke down on the scheduled installation day and they had to reschedule for a few days later. This was very inconvenient as we'd moved all of our furniture already, but these things happen I suppose. The only negative mark from the whole experience.

We purchased our own flooring product offline; most retailers/installers wouldn't even consider installing it for us. Century promptly responded to our inquiry, answered all of our questions, and did a great job with the installation, including tweaking a few things in the scope of work after the initial flooring was removed. We're extremely pleased with the result.

Excellent, as already described they were extremely helpful and patient. They were very punctual with arrival times to provide the estimate, as well as providing their detailed proposal.
Through no fault of their own, my wife and I eventually decided to not have carpeting installed. We inadvertently fell in love with the pre-existing hardwood after we did our own carpet removal. That being said we did not ultimately have further services rendered, however for future home improvements (i.e. kitchen/bath/mud room tile installation) we know exactly where to go for great guidance and service. In summary they provided excellent services, quality materials and very fair pricing.
