CLOCK & WATCH SHOP

About us

Located in the basement of the Peghiny family home, the Clock & Watch Shop was found by Jim Peghiny in 1985 after he retired from a career in electrical engineering. His youngest child Susan joining the business in 1996, and her husband Ron started in 2017. We work on all kinds of clocks & watches (except Rolex & Concorde). Please call before bringing in large clocks, as our storage space in limited. While we don't do housecalls we can work on the movement of your tall case clock, or refer you to someone who does housecalls. Our repair time is generally 2-3 months as we are almost always overwhelmed with clocks. We do the clocks in the order in which they are received.

The clock which was an eight-day shaker wasn't running. I'd work for a hour or two and then stop. I thought a cleaning would be all that was needed but it still wouldn't run for more than a couple of hours. Chris couldn't figure out why but didn't charge me for all the looking. He said to fix it would need to be taken apart completely and for $225 he'd trebuild it, but I haven't decided yet if I would proceed to do it.

"I think you may have us confused with the Watertown Watch & Clock Shop. We don't have anyone here named Chris, but the WW&C is owned by Chris Carey."

Very nice people, they tried to fix a broken clock and let me know when it was going to get very expensive. I chose not to continue. They did not charge anything for trying. Very professional.

Jim diagnosed a problem with our shelf clock and got it fixed. I had gone to a shop in downtown Boston and received an outrageous estimate and then was told it could not be fixed. The Clock and Watch Shop was a life saver! I would recommend them to all. It is worth the drive to Aburndale.

The owner of the shop was very friendly and knew exactly what to do.  His shop was cozy and you get a true sense that he loves his profession.  He was courteous and charged a very reasonable price for the work.  I will definitely return for future watch purchases or watch repair services.

Found Mr, Peghiny's Clock and Watch Shop on the internet. His shop was featured on a website which specializes in antique watches .Checked his shop out on Angies List which has earned him an A rating.
He repaired and restored to original working condition my Gandfather and Fathers watch. It had a broken stem and missing crown. The watched hadn't been serviced in over a couple of decades. The watch an antique Waltham, made in 1883 now functions perfectly. I'm so proud to own my Grandfathers, perfectly working 120 year old watch.

I had previously taken my husband's TAG watch to Marquis Jewelers in Newton Centre who told me that the watch would have to be sent away to be repaired.  After sending it away they called to tell me that it would have to be cleaned as well as repaired and it would cost approximately $500.  I thought that was a ridiculous amount of money so I found The Clock and Watch Shop through Angie's List.  They said that it might take as much as 6-8 weeks to repair but it could be just a few days they wouldn't know until they took a look at it but promised it wouldn't cost $500.  They called back just a few days later and said the watch was fixed and it would cost $35.  Needless to say I was thrilled!    It was a pleasure dealing with the father and daughter team who run this charming shop out of their basement.  It's like a step back in time to an old fashioned repair shop.  They coiuldn't have been nicer.  I will definitely return if I need a clock or watch repaired in the future.

I brought in a clock whose second hand was frozen. Jim estimated it would cost $25 to repair, then called me the next day to say that it was fixed and that he was only going to charge me $12. Very satisfied, and I'll return for any other watch or clock repairs.

I took a watch and two clocks to be cleaned/repaired. The clocks were my childhood wind-up clocks and the watch was my late mother's Bulova watch from the 1930's. I had lived in Harvard Sq. for years and used Swiss Watchmakers. I was happy to talk directly with Mr. Pegniny from the start. One must make an appointment since his shop is in his home.  He no longer works on the tiniest women's watches but I trust him completely on all other clocks and watches.  He clearly love timepieces and enjoys answering one's questions. A great experience.  I especially liked talking to the Pro himself and not having a sales clerk run back and forth to the pros the way most shops are set up.

I tried my local clock repairman, Tic Toc Doc (also deserving an A rating overall), but he doesn't do watch repairs, and the one person he knew who used to do that work had retired, so I looked on Angie's list, and selected this service provider, as he had an A rating.  I called to verify that he'd be willing to do the work.  He said he'd be happy to look at it, but he was 8 weeks behind.  He gave me clear, easy to follow directions on how to find his shop (thank goodness as I would have missed it if just searching by address).  When I took the watch in some days later.  There were two other customers ahead of me.  When it was my turn, he assured me he could repair it, and it would take 8 to 10 weeks.  Sure enough, it took ten weeks.  When I came to pick it up, it was in a cloth pouch, which he provided, with a sheet giving me all kinds of information about the watch -- year of manufacture, case material, jewels in the mechanism -- that I didn't know, all neatly packaged in a paper envelope.

Took a couple weeks to clean the watch, and it looked great. Took longer to find the parts to replace it. They searched the country and at one point had a new spring delivered that was not strong enough. Eventually they were able to find parts and complete repair. Looks great, runs great. They also took the time to explain the watch, including date of manufacture, number of jewels, etc. Could not be happier. I contacted them myself every 3-4 weeks for an update. Several times I left messages but they were not returned. I simply called back later. Overall took about 3 months.

The clasp on my watch kept opening, so I was looking for a place to get it fixed and wanted to avoid a jewelry shop. Could not have had a better experience - he fixed it right away, showed me how to do the same thing in the future, and then didn't charge me despite me being more than willing pay for such a pleasant and easy interaction. This is a great shop - kind of a step back in time to a craftsman who clearly loves what he does.
