We used Edson to install our tile and granite in our renovation. His people did get the job done, but he was a headache during the entire process. They didn't show up when they were supposed too and held up the entire job. They put the thresholds in the bathroom incorrectly. Now 3 years later my kitchen sink has dropped from the countertop. The seal broke and the hangers that hold the sink bent. He will not honor the work and basically hung up on me when I said that he should. I think the sink needed 10-12 hangers and I only have 4. Do not use him or trust him.

We initially hired Beauty Stone for our kitchen countertops, based on a referral from a friend at the gym (before I joined Angie's LIst!). Their price was approx. $4000. Two other companies' estimates were $9000 and $18,000. They did a pretty good job on the granite, but like another reviewer, tried to increase the square footage measurement on the invoice. I argued and measured myself and refused to pay the extra. Edson cut the hole too large for the faucet and somehow jury-rigged it so you can't see it. He never cut the hole for the soap dispenser. Some areas have 1/2 inch gap between the counter and the wall. We're hoping the backsplash will eventually cover it.

At the same time, we had them do our master bath (before the problems came up). They completely messed up our Jacuzzi installation so the surrounding travertine pieces were placed in under the Jacuzzi instead of dropping the Jacuzzi on top after the surround was done. The final piece in front  looked poor, with major fill in it. We demanded to get a new piece and Jackie was very good about letting me come to the fabrication place and pick the exact part of the slab we wanted.  They finally installed all the slabs of travertine surrounding the Jacuzzi, after about 4 months of ongoing problems.  It cracked within a few weeks because they never built the support properly underneath it and the workers stepped on it to install the surrounding backsplash.  Also, the travertine slabs around the shower do not line up - the threshold is longer on one end than the other (hard to describe, but trust me, it looks bad). The price for the bathroom work, by the way, was not as low as the granite.

I could go on and on - but my blood pressure is going up as I write this. Do not ever hire this company. Don't be tempted by the cheap prices. It is so not worth the screw ups and stress. Jackie is a good person, but her ex-husband(?) Edson is a complete hack and a liar and should not be allowed in your home for any type of work. We stopped him from completing other carpentry work because he cracked our front door frame during installation and his workers caused a lot of other damage in our home. He had the nerve to call us a few months later and ask for money that he thought we still owed him for work he had not finished.

Installation went well, we are very pleased with the way the granite has held up so far (approx one year later). The reason I have to give such a negative report now is that I made three separate attempts to have them come out and clean/seal the counters (as recommended) and they never showed up. I had to call each time to follow up - the first time I was told that one of their "guys" was ill and they thought they had called everyone with an appointment but somehow missed us. The second time they were "delayed on a prior job" (again, I had to follow up - they did not have the courtesy to call). And finally last week they simply never showed up, never called, and worst of all never responded to my message asking for an explanation. I would not use them again and would not recommend them to others.

This company was referred to me by a family member and I am very upset about what happened. We had a temporary counter on our cabinets built by my father-in-law, which I admit was not the standard counter the workers are probably use to working with. However, the workers hammered the finish nails into the counter instead of pulling them out which resulted in the breaking of 3 cabinets. They said they would glue the wood pieces back in place but never did. The granite was installed and looked great. My husband had wanted a warranty which he said they would provide but after the work was completed they said they don't provide them, but just call if there is a problem. Four months later, the undermount sink fell in! We called and Emailed Edson a few times and he finally called back and made an appointment to come over. He never showed! We've had no further communication with him. It looks like they installed a repaired piece of granite or they didn't use enough bolts to hold the sink up. I wish I had paid a little bit more money to go with someone I could trust and who would have been responsive to problems.

I had my whole kitchen updated in summer 2009. My experience with Beauty Stone was excellent. Edson Sampaio, the owner, was very pleasant mannered and professional. His price was the most reasonable. He was easy to get in touch with for questions. He is a hands-on owner who did the installation himself (with his assistants). He understood how important it was to us to have the granite positioned on the templates a certain way since the pattern of the granite we chose varies quite a bit and I wanted certain colors and characteristics placed in certain areas on the cabinetry. I actually went to his work site to let him know where I wanted the templates placed on the slab. Most of all, I am most pleased with his workmanship. Only one seam as opposed to three made by the previous fabricator we used. He even offered some nice design suggestions. I would recommend BeautyStone to anyone.----Marsha, Mansfield, MA?

The soapstone supplier I used recommended Beauty Stone as a fabricator and installer for my soapstone countertops. I went with Beauty Stone because I read that it is important to work with a fabricator that knows the stone and will not treat it like granite since soapstone has different characteristics. The owner, Edson Sampaio, came to my apartment to measure for the template. Pros: The price Beauty Stone gave me in writing on my invoice was fair. The fabrication seems to be good (although since my kitchen renovation is not complete yet I will have to wait to see if the finish is correct and does not leave water rings.) The installers worked quite late to get the job done during the time I requested. Edson was responsible during the first attempt at installation when his workers recognized a crack in the stone. He explained the problem to me and ordered a new slab to re-cut the stone. Cons: For both the templating and the first attempt at installation, Beauty Stone was over 2 hours late. On the final installation they did not give me an exact time so who can say if they were late or not. Before templating, Edson said he needed a 50% deposit which is fine but I was shocked that he wanted $1000 up front for my kitchen with 28 s.f of countertop. He also wanted the check made out to him personally and not to Beauty Stone which was also strange. Later Jackie Sampaio sent me and invoice and the total for the install was just over $1000. Communication with the Beauty Stone office was not great. When I called to check in on the final install, the woman in the office seemed put off that I wasn?t satisfied with ?before the end of the week? as an answer and that I actually wanted details like what day and time the installers were coming. The most disappointing part of the installation is that Beauty Stone left a quarter inch gap between the countertop and the wall. Edson was not present for either installation and I do not think that would have happened if he was. Finally, while Edson might be knowledgeable about Soapstone, his installers are not. Its commonly known that soapstone scratches easily. The installers left some rather large scratches in the stone from the install. I asked if they could sand it out before I oiled it and one of them said soapstone could not be sanded. That is just not true. My impression was that it was late and they just wanted to leave whether I was satisfied or not.

Gave an original estimate of 62 sq/ft for granite countertops, backspash, and table. After receiving 50% down payment ($3000), jacked the final measurement to 86 sq/ft, and refused to give us our money back when we did not wish to go forward with the inflated price, offering instead to "drop the granite on your property". Since they had us over a barrel, we reluctantly agreed to move forward. They changed the dimensions on the table saying the original estimate didn't include the legs. They installed granite without the services of an electrician, covered an electrical outlet with granite in violation of the electrical code, and disconnected wires that caused our living room lights not to function. During the installation of the backsplash, Edson came hours later than he said he would. After we terminated our relationship they took us to small claims court for money they claimed we owed them. They lost, and we won our counterclaim.

Edson and Jackie are wonderful, knowledgeable, and responsive. Edson helped me pick out stone, taking me to a few different warehouses, and then he cut and installed a beautiful granite countertop. He had good suggestions about cosmetic aspects of the project and helped us get a good deal on Artisan sinks and faucets. We had a short turnaround time because of two closing dates close together, and they worked over the weekend to make sure our counter got in on time.
