We have used Mackinac for mortgages several times. The local loan officer and admin staff are great, the service in the main office is great, and we have had a fine experience in the past. This time,after the local office submitted our application as usual, underwriting gave us a conditional approval with so many requirements, then more,then more. After it was over (the underwriting experience, not the real estate transaction), I felt like I needed a vacation for a week.
Things have tightened up in residential lending in general, but this last experience with Mackinac was over the top. We use 3 banks regularly, and no other been this exhausting in transactions during this same year. If they continue with these endless sets of underwriting conditions, they will drive regular business away. If they correct this, I would be happy to go back due to the great staff and service before and after the underwriting.
