We had a plumbing issue that the plumber could not diagnose. He charged us 189 for a visit anyway. We received no advice other than telling us that he could not identify the cause.

He has been really good. I had him out originally to hook up my new gas. I asked him while he was there if he would check out a drain issue. He ended up spending a half hour on it and didn't charge me for it.

My upstairs toilet overflowed which resulting in the entire ceiling of the room below to fall in. Fortunately, my insurance company paid for the water damage, but I decided to take advantage of the exposed ceiling to replace what were clearly old and deteriorating pipes. I called MacDonald Plumbing to replace the old pipes. They literally offered to come that very day. When they arrived, pointed out the pipes that would be replaced in the ceiling. No mention was made of pipes needing to be run from the basement all the way the 2nd floor. And no mention was made of price. I was told the entire project would be completed in two days. The first day they replaced the pipes in the ceiling and as I was informed after the fact they ran piping from the basement to the upstairs bathroom. At the end of the first day I was presented with a bill for $2,500.00, which I paid thinking it was the cost of the entire project. I take some blame here ? for one, I should not of paid him before the repairs where complete and I had inspected them. Second, I should not just have presumed that was the cost of the entire repair. On the other hand Rich MacDonald never uttered a word that the 2nd day would be separate charges. At the end of the 2nd day I was presented with a bill for $1,180.00. Somewhat stunned I asked for a more detailed accounting than the two sentence description of the work done and one line figure merely described as parts and labor totally the $1,180.00. What was really completely unacceptable to me was that he couldn?t provide me with any details on the price of the parts. The pipes where simply ?the best in the world? and he imported large quantities of them from Italy so he couldn?t break out the amount he used for my repairs. Huh?!? And what?s wrong with less expensive piping from Home Depot? At least give me that option. But for a pretty penny I now have pipes that will ?last me the rest of my life?. Yippee! I won?t be calling MacDonald Plumbing anytime soon. And I would certainly not recommend them to anyone ? unless, for a extravagant price, they wanted the ?the best in the world?.

We called Macdonald plumbing because we had a clog in the kitchen sink. For us, the clog happened when we used the dishwasher. The plumber came and used the power snake to clean the clog. He said that the problem would be fixed after that. But when we used the dishwasher again that afternoon, we ran into the problem again. We called the plumber again, and he said he will come the next day, which was fine with us. The next day, the plumber came and all he said that this problem can't be fixed by snaking, and we need to change the pipe from kitchen sink all the way to the sewer (in basement). He wanted to pressure us into doing it, and was ready to start on Sunday afternoon. He gave an estimate of $2,000 for changing the pipes. During the course, we had told the plumber that we were first time buyer, and I think he wanted to take advantage of it and suggest completely un-needed upgrade of the pipes. We called a separate plumber next day, and he used the power snake and fixed the problem. He also said that there was no need to change the pipes. Most of the other people we talked to also said that upgrading the pipes was a completely un-needed.

They had some pretty good ratings on Angie's List, but they were really disappointing to us. I thought what they charged us was outrageously expensive. They didn t handle the situation properly because they never responded to my phone calls when I wanted them to come back. Not calling us back to fix the problem was really bad.

They were very meticulous and did a great job. They were on time, friendly, and answered all of our questions. I would recommend them to anyone. They have a great service and they are all professional and very hard working. I am pleased with them and the price was reasonable as well.

RICH MACDONALD WAS VERY PERSONABLE AND HE CAN BE COUNTED ON TO STICK TO QUOTES EVEN IN THE CASE THAT MUCH MORE LABOR IS REQUIRED THAT HE EXPECTED. HOWEVER, DON'T FORGET TO ASK HIM TO QUOTE EVERYTHING OUT EXPLICITLY, LEAST YOU FIND A GOTCHA ON THE BILL. ALL THE PLUMBING AND GAS PIPING WAS *VERY* WELL DONE, HOWEVER THE DUCTWORK WORK WAS NOT THE BEST AND CONSTITUTED LITTLE MORE THAN EXTENSION AND REROUTING OF THE EXISTING HALF-AS*ED SOLUTION. YOU KNOW WRITING THAT UP IT DOESN'T SEEM AS POSITIVE AN EXPERIENCE AS IT WAS, NEVERTHELESS OF THE PLUMBERS I'VE HAD IN ARLINGTON, MA MACDONALD'S IS DEFINATELY THE BEST TO DATE.
