For years and years and years we've purchased our oil there. They maintain our oil burner. They have replaced our oil tank and replaced our furnace. I had good service from them. I did not compare their price. I've always been very happy with them. I like their service and their product.

They do the oil, we have oil. We do business with them to get the oil and then, we pay them like $90 for the maintenance work once a year. They are good.

We have been customers of Lyons Fuel for ten years. We have an annual service plan and we participate in their automatic delievery program.
We recently contacted Lyons Fuel regarding a problem with our Amtrol Boilermate (hot water heater). We did not have a problem with the Amtrol Smart Control panel during the summer when we were only using it to heat our water. As soon as we started using the furnace in the fall, the Amtrol Smart Panel will now beep with an ER2 code (water is overheated). Lyons Fuel sent a technician to our home and he replaced a circulator pump which did NOT solve the problem. The technician indicated that he wanted to replace the Smart Control panel and I told him that I would make arrangements to get a replacement directly from Amtrol, which I did.
My husband installed the new Smart Control panel and we have continued to have problems with it beeping with an ER2 code. Lyons Fuel was again notified and a technician was sent to address the problem. The technician was unable to correct the problem even when he replaced the brand new Smart Control panel with another new Smart Control panel.
On two separate occasions SEAN LYONS has made arrangements to personally come to our house to address the problem. As of 12/9/11 which is more than a month since the first service call about this problem, SEAN LYONS has still not been to the house and has not returned my most recent phone call. Our only solution at this time is to turn the furnace on for a few hours at a time because the water is still over heating and the Smart Control starts to beep incessantly, which means that we are currently unable to have any heat during the night because we cannot leave it on for that long. We will not be able to limp through the winter months with our hot water heater/furnace under these conditions.

They were very clean and efficient, and responded quickly to an issue with the thermostat. They also deliver my oil. Once, maybe ten years ago, they let me run out of oil (I think they were trying to time the oil market). It hasn't happened since. Otherwise, their service is excellent.

Not once but TWICE Lyons let our tank run dry, which meant that the oil burner stopped and we had to have them come out and restart it -- after first delivering oil. And that meant several hours or a day without heat. After the second time, we changed to another oil company.

Lyons Fuel is relatively inexpensive and might have the cheapest oil prices out there. That is basically the only reason we have stuck with them and put up with the rude and unprofessionalism. With that said, they always do the annual maintenance check ups on time and come when they are scheduled to do so. We recently had a problem with our burner, made a call at 11:00 PM and the owner was to our house by the next day and fixed it so we were without hot water less than 24 hours. We were impressed by that. However, there have been many times in the past that we have been so upset and so close to canceling with them. One year I got off the phone in tears and told my husband that if he wanted to keep them as our oil provider because they were the cheapest out there, I was never going to interact with the owner again-- he would have to. This was after the owner cursed at me and basically told me to go find another oil company when I was upset that he would not come and fill up our tank the week before our contract was to expire (he knew if he waited a week later to fill it up, we'd be paying almost double for the oil). If you can put up with someone who needs to work on his people skills, you will get oil at a reasonable price and he will make sure you have a system that runs and functions so you will have heat and hot water.

For nearly a year we had a relatively painless automatic oil delivery experience with these folks, who also do business as "Arlington Energy." In October 2009, however, we ran out of oil. They hadn't filled the tank since April, despite the fact that when we signed up we said that our oil furnace also ran the hot water heater. In early December we ran out again. I called and the receptionist said that they had no way to know how big the house was (they'd visited multiple times; I filled out the square footage when we signed up for automatic delivery), how much oil we might use, or that we were possibly using more due to having a baby at home (definitely my fault). In other words, working with these guys created two emergency "no heat" situations in two months. How did they respond to an emergency? The first time they took most of the day before finally showing up with a truck to refill the oil tank. I'm not sure why we didn't get priority over deliveries to non-critical customers, but we didn't. The second time we were without heat for two nights and one full day. This is not a lot of fun when it is below freezing outside and you have a 3-month-old baby at home. We decided that we needed to switch to a company that has multiple technicians available and is willing to come over after hours if necessary to restore heat.

Overall, we have not had a problem getting oil. Our usage is relatively low since we keep the thermostat down, so we have never had to call Lyon's to fill an empty tank. When we have capped the price of oil they have honored that price. Our primary complaint is that when we schedule our annual cleaning the service technician rarely shows up on the day scheduled. A few times I have missed a day of work while waiting at home - this isn't so bad nowadays since my wife is at home -- but still annoying. We'd probably change companies for this reason alone, but haven't out of laziness/habit.

Shawn made a commitment to restart a burner with a customer requesting on-demand oil delivery. This was below freezing weather. He kept promising to come, making excuses that he could not get into the basement. But he had already gained entry through a door that has no lock. This went on for 4 days at which point I hired another oil company. He was extremely rude, degrading to women (customer) and had no patience.

WE'VE BEEN A LONG TIME CUSTOMER OF LYONS AND THEY HAVE GENERALLY BEEN GOOD TO DEAL WITH. WE HAVE A MAINTENANCE CONTRACT WITH THEM WHICH INCLUDES AN ANNUAL CLEANING. RECENTLY, THOUGH, WE HAD A LEAK IN THE BACK OF THE FURNACE AND THEY CAME AND REPLACED IT. WE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM 6 MONTHS AGO WHICH MAKES ME WONDER WHY IT WAS HAPPENING AGAIN. NEVERTHELESS, THEY GIVE PRIORITY TO SERVICE CALLS AND THEIR TECHNICIANS SHOW UP ON TIME AND PERFORM THE WORK.

EVERYTHING IN THE COMPANY IS RUN THROUGH SHAWN, WHO I GUESS IS THE OWNER. WHEN YOU CALL FOR BASIC INFORMATION EVERYONE SAYS "YOU HAVE TO TALK TO SHAWN". WHEN SHAWN CALLS BACK IT CAN BE HARD TO PIN HIM DOWN ABOUT PRICE, ETC. IN THE PAST FEW YEARS THEY HAD A PRICE CAP THAT LASTED UNTIL APRIL 1, THEN THEY WOULD SOMETIMES SNEAK IN AN EXTRA DELIVERY A FEW DAYS LATER AT WHATEVER THE MARKET PRICE WAS. THE SERVICE IS ONLY SO-SO. ONCE WHEN MY DAUGHTER WAS A BABY WE RAN OUT OF OIL ON A NIGHT THAT WAS WELL BELOW ZERO, AND EVEN THOUGH I GOT SHAWN ON THE PHONE HE DIDN'T GET A TANK OF FUEL THERE FOR ALMOST 24 HOURS. THIS YEAR WITH PRICES ARE GOING UP I TOLD HIM I WAS THINKING OF SWITCHING, SO HE GAVE ME AN OKAY PRICE FOR THE SEASON, BUT I HAVE NO IDEA, NOW THAT THE PRICE HAS SOFTENED, WHETHER I AM GETTING CHARGED A FAIR PRICE. ARE THERE BETTER OIL COMPANIES ON PRICE OR SERVICE? IF I COULD FIND ONE, I'D PROBABLY SWITCH.
