Went here for a second estimate after our car was t-boned. First shop, much closer to home, displayed a somewhat negative attitude toward cars and insurance companies, in general and specifically. Not wanting to engage in conversation not related to the business at hand, I sought recommendations from other people and was pleasantly surprised. Hanson and Tilton's owner met me at the door when I pulled up, and within moments had grasped the whole situation, including the probable cost of repair and the insurance company's probable response.
I had to bring the car to the shop a few different times; I was always met at the door and attended to immediately. Workers were respectful and polite.

I have now twice taken my car to Hanson and Tilton for minor body work, originally because of their reputation in VW enthusiast web sites. This report is based on my most recent experience, though the same was true of my first (during 2010). After an insurance appraisal of the damage, I brought the car to Hand T, where Wayne evaluated it in about 5 minutes. His first response was essentially, "OK, a fairly straightforward minor repair. The insurance appraisal is, as usual, low. We'll deal with them about the supplement and it will take about 4 days because of paint, parts availability, and the signoff by Met Property. When do you want to bring it in?" I readily scheduled a time within a week, though it could have been worked on sooner. The work was completed in exactly the time specified, with original dealer (not aftermarket) parts. The paint and sheet metal quality is beautiful, to my eye indistinguishable from OEM appearance. The final cost was, as predicted, more than the original insurance appraisal but was still entirely covered by the insurer. It is worth noting there was a minor glitch this time around and also, how it was handled. When I picked up the car, I noted a small hole in the driver's leather seat cushion where someone had fairly clearly sat down with a pen in their pocket. I was pretty certain that this was new and, when I pointed it out to Wayne, I got no serious argument. He took the initiative to arrange a repair at his usual interior seat work source, with no charge to me. That work was just completed, exactly as promised. I consider the problem a one-off event that was handled in a prompt and professional way; as a consequence, I firmly believe I received "A" quality service. In sum, on two recent occasions, I have seen an insistence at Hanson and Tilton on doing the job right: the complete honesty, responsibility, and quality of work is truly exceptional. While this will usually cost somewhat more than doing the bare minimum, I feel that Wayne and the people he employs are serious about doing work they can take pride in. For that reason, I would recommend the shop to anyone who appreciates this kind of effort.

I made and appointment, drove over, got a written estimate in 12 minutes, made the next appointment, dropped off the car early, picked it up at the end of the following day. Job done within estimate and on time. Even gave me a ride back to Lexington when I needed it.

They were very helpful and pleasant. The guy who came out to tow it gave me a ride back to the shop and home. They were always very good on calling us back if we needed anything. I really enjoyed working with them and my car is doing great.

MY DEALER RECOMMENDED THAT I USE THESE GUYS TO FIX MY MIRROR. I CALLED AND THEY ASKED THAT I BRING THE CAR BY THE SHOP SO THEY COULD TAKE A LOOK AT IT. I BROUGHT THE CAR BY ON A WEEKDAY MORNING, SINCE THEY ARE ONLY OPEN UNTIL 5 ON WEEKDAYS AND NOT AT ALL ON WEEKENDS. THE MANAGER WAS NOT AVAILABLE, SO I SPOKE WITH ANOTHER EMPLOYEE WHO TOOK DOWN MY PHONE NUMBER. WHEN I GOT TO WORK THERE WAS A MESSAGE FROM THE MANAGER ASKING ME TO CALL HIM (NO MENTION OF WHAT HE NEEDED TO KNOW). I DID WITHIN 30 MINUTES, BUT AGAIN HE WASN'T AVAILABLE SO I LEFT A MESSAGE WITH THE SECRETARY. WHEN I DIDN'T HEAR BACK FOR 3 WEEKS, I CALLED AND THE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT HE DID NOT GET MY MESSAGE. MY TICKET HAD BEEN THROWN AWAY. THEY MADE NO FURTHER ATTEMPT TO CONTACT ME BEFORE ASSUMING THAT I WAS NO LONGER INTERESTED IN THEIR SERVICES. THE MANAGER ACTED LIKE IT WAS MY FAULT THAT HE DIDN'T KNOW I HAD CALLED. IT'S POSSIBLE THEY ARE GOOD AT AUTO REPAIR (I'LL NEVER KNOW), BUT THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS PRETTY LOUSY.
