CAREFUL CARRIERS

I was a little leery of using these guys due to their poor Angie's list ratings, but several friends had used them and had good experiences with them. Overall, the crew doing the work was pretty good. They hustled and didn't break any of our stuff. The guys were polite and made sure we were happy with the work. They showed up about 30 minutes late both days. The people in the office mis-calculated how much we had to move, and we had to go and get a second truck late in the day because the first one didn't hold everything. The move-out took about 3 hours longer than quoted (and cost 50% more that quoted). The move-in went well and was on budget. Some of our belongings got wet during the overnight storage on the truck, which had some holes in it and must have leaked. The people in the office seem to be clueless. Despite a very thorough phone interview, the crew was not prepared for how much we had to move. The woman Pat who answers the phone always seems to be screening her calls and then calls back 5 minutes after you leave a message. The advantage of this company over some of the bigger local firms is price, as they seem to be 25-40% cheaper than other companies we looked into.

Day 1 The agreement was 3 men at an hourly rate for 2 days to complete the job. They arrived slighly late on the first day (10 min) and the move started out great. The men were friendly, careful, and worked relatively quickly. As the job seemed to be moving faster than anticipated, so one of the men decided to leave and have the other two complete the days work packing. The entire crew left by 3pm with still quite a bit of work to do. Day 2 The next day was a disaster...only 2 men showed up an hour late and they didn't finish the packing until 5pm (the whole move - pack, move, and unpack was supposed to be competed by 5pm!) The poor guys were completely demotivated as they had been set up for mission impossible by not completing more of the packing the day before and being one man down. I raised my concern to the head office, but they said there was nothing they could do - they only had 2 men that day. I found this totally unacceptable since I was quoted 3 men and the amount of time it takes 2 men is much greater (and more expensive) than 3 men. By 8pm, the poor guys were totally thrashed and only 1/4 of the way thru unpacking the truck. We agreed to let them take off and come back for a totally unplanned and unbudgeted for DAY 3!!!! Day 3 The next day, they show up with 3 guys again...and guess what - i'm paying the 3 man rate again on day 3 (including travel to and from my house). The three guys unpacked the truck very quickly and placed all my items in the requested locations. Nothing was broken or missing. I'm not bashing the men - they did a great job under the circumstances, but ther problem with this company is the management. The actual price came out DOUBLE of what the estimate was, the duration of the move was 8 hours more than estimated (primarily due to being 1 man down and demotivation of the 2 men that showed up). I called the office and asked for a discount considering the huge gap in the estimate of time and cost - they would not budge at all and they wouldn't let the poor guys leave my house until they had a check for the full amount. They even threatened me that they would dock the men's pay if I didn't pay in full. This is poor customer service, poor management, and bad business. I would not recommend these guys to anyone.

Wasn't my project. I just happened to be in their way.

This company is not cheap. I will tell you that. This whole area is expensive though. They did not break any of our furniture and we were happy enough with their services. They could stand to lower their prices a bit but otherwise, they were pretty good.

The move itself went well with the exception of the boxspring debacle. The three guys who showed up were friendly, and efficient. After the move, I noticed that there was damage to my loveseat. I called to get them to come replace it pursuant to the $20,000 worth of insurance I bought. After several phone calls, someone finally showed up to look at the loveseat. I was told they would contact me the following day. Two and a half weeks later, I have been leaving messages daily. I finally got a call back telling me that they will come to pick up the loveseat, and have it fixed. They are picking it up on a monday morning, and they claim that they will return it by the end of the week. Given how many times they have blown me off so far, I'm not holding my breath.

These folks were awesome. The office is well-run and friendly. I phoned several times leading up to the move & they always returned my calls promptly, if I called out of hours. They turned up on time, and flexibly accommodated my need for extra assistance with packing. They worked quickly & efficiently. Not one thing was broken. Careful Carriers is an appropriate name! Also, the price was very competitive compared with 2 other estimates that I received.

THEY GAVE US A WRITTEN ESTIMATE, AND THEN THEY ENDED UP CHARGING US ALMOST DOUBLE. OTHER THAN THAT, THE MOVE WENT WELL, BUT WE WOULD HAVE LIKED THEM TO STICK TO THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE.
