Melissa is a joy to work with.  She helped us every step of the way through a very complicated project which included moving walls, relocating rooms, a complete master suite build-out and decorating every corner of our house..  She was responsive, honest and did a great job of listening to our wishes.  I can recommend her work without hesitation.

The project went great!  Everything coordinates so well, and we are completely happy with the results.  She was very responsive during the entire process, and she provided us with tons of options that we really liked before helping us narrow down the choices.  She also helped with pricing on items that she could, and even helped with measuring out and hanging the art when we were too afraid to hammer into the beautiful wallpaper!  We would definitely recommend Hammond Design, and we're already working with Melissa again to decorate our dining room.

Melissa is a delight to work with. She spent our initial meeting getting to know us, our space, and our ideas for how we wanted our rooms to look and function. When we first contacted Melissa, all we knew was that we wanted our space to be comfortable, casual, and kid (and dog) friendly. And she really understood that. A few weeks later, she presented several design options and helped us pick and choose what we liked about each one. From there, she came up with a design that was perfect for us.

She set us up with a fabulous contractor to help carry out her plan. The renovations included new construction windows, widening a doorway, installing radiant heat, replacing tiles, and installing a custom built media cabinet and window seating (designed by Melissa). While the renovations were taking place, Melissa shopped for new furniture, rugs, lighting, and fabrics. She always presented several options that will work well in the space and helped us choose between them. She has an amazing eye for detail, all the while keeping our tastes in mind.

As the renovations were coming to an end, she designed window treatments and helped us choose paint colors. She found an amazing company to do the custom window treatments and cushions for the window seating. The finished product far exceeded our expectations. Previously, we never used our sunroom. But now it's our favorite room in the house. Melissa is a talented designer with an intuitive sense about what her clients will like. She's so easy to work with and we trust her advice. She has high standards for the companies she recommends for painting, carpentry, and window treatments, not to mention furniture stores and fabric vendors. We absolutely recommend her services.

It went great.  After spending many, hours shopping around in tile stores and bathroom showrooms, I couldn't make up my mind about anything.  I was overwhelmed, so I called Melissa.  She is awesome. She is very professional, insightful and doesn't waist time.  She came to my home to see the bathroom, and I showed her a few pictures of what my style is.  We went shopping a couple of times, and , with her expert guidance, I was able to stay focused and we selected the tiles, fixtures, flooring, counter top, etc.  It went very quickly-nothing like when I went myself.

I love my bathroom! It is much more functional, and I am more than pleased with how well everything works together. I recommend Melissa highly, and plan to use her help again.  I wish I would have contacted her earlier and not wasted so much time wondering around without accomplishing anything.  I feel like she is well worth the money.

I have been working with Melissa and everything has wonderful. She is prompt, courteous, and knows her stuff. There are thousands of choices out there and she helped us focus down to what we were looking for.

I had a vague idea of creating a home office / game room out of a large unused room over the garage. After agreeing to work with Melissa Hammond she interviewed me about what I wanted and suggested some possible directions. She then gave me various "homework assignments": to look at examples of other offices and game rooms, look at certain furniture and materials, etc. After further consultation she presented several layout options and we discussed the tradeoffs.
I also had wanted to be my own general contractor, and to do some of the work myself. As with any DIY project progress can be non-linear so I really wanted to have a solid roadmap and budget to guide me. Melissa provided vision and guidance for the general order of events. She provided an initial budget which was helpful as a starting point, although not particularly accurate. Engineering isn't really her thing either, so make sure that your contractor makes his own measurements and calculations - or do them carefully yourself if you are doing any of the work.
Where Melissa really impressed me was in selecting materials (flooring, fabrics) and colors. Some of the choices seemed really odd at the time, but when the room all came together it was stunning. Kind of exactly what I originally had in mind, only better.
Overall, working with Hammond Design was a very positive experience. Mellisa was very upfront and clear about the process and her fees, was very professional in our working relationship, and delivered an exceptional end result.

We moved to a new house and found the large, open family awkward to arrange. After reviewing designers on Angie's List, we decided to call Melissa. During the first visit, she talked with us to understand how we use the space and what our tastes are and took measurements and photos. The following day, she provided a proposal with estimated hours and cost for floor plans and furniture selections. It took us a while to review and confirm the contract, and then she scheduled another visit to review three options for room layouts. Once we picked a layout, we began corresponding by email to select a rug. She'd send me a list of links and I'd provide feedback on what we liked/disliked about each so she could further narrow in on our tastes as well as comfort level in price range. We then scheduled a shopping trip to area retailers with our style/pricing, and we selected the main furnishings. The whole process took about 6 months, but the delay was entirely on our end--I take a long time to make decisions. We are so pleased with the result! We have since brought her back to help with our master bedroom. Melissa is very patient and attentive. We appreciate her ability to really get our style, even when we couldn't figure it out!

Melissa was and is great to work with. She quickly responded to my call and was able to meet with me within 2 weeks of that call.  Best of all, before we started anything, she took the time to get to know me, my style, the project and wrote up a plan of action with an estimate all for free. That alone, was a life saver. We are in the middle of a whole house gut renovation and my husband and I became completely overwhelmed with the amount of selections, the pace of the project and the idea that this was supposed to be for the rest of our lives.  Although we are on a tight budget, it was well worth getting Melissa involved from a sanity aspect but also I think she has a keen eye for style and respects the budget without making you feel bad. We are not finished with the project yet but I really like working with her, she is just the right mix of serious professional and fun and personable. We are very happy that we found Melissa!

First of all we need to have A+ as an option because that is the best way to describe Melissa. I'm currently in the middle of a complete kitchen gut and remodel. I found myself flooded with many ideas, color, and concepts regarding my back splash, granite and overall function of the room. I decided to contact Hammond design after reading many glowing reviews. I already had several ideas of what I was looking to do but really need a professional opinion after absorbing so much information on-line and from friends.
   Melissa and I spoke on the phone and I felt instantly comfortable and excited to work with her because she quickly understood the direction I wanted my project to go. I sent Melissa several emails of how I was modeling my kitchen and questions on options I had a hard time deciding on. We met a tile store and reviewed the project. I showed Melissa pictures of my house and project so she could get a feel of what type of design I was looking to accomplish. She was excellent about hearing my ideas and helping with what works and what does not. She gave me several options and helped me pick the right one. Melissa also did some research on lighting and provide me with her opinions and options as well.
   The overall experience was excellent and my only regret was not hiring Melissa from the very beginning when I started working on my project. She is an excellent at what she does and makes the daunting tasking of remodeling feel very easy and enjoyable. I even had a family friend say to me "you look so much more relaxed about your kitchen now !"

I was already in the process of an redesign with another firm (with "design" in the name, but more architectural, I later learned) when I quickly realized that he was not going to providing any design insights/recommendations at all. At that point I found Melissa here and contacted her about buying a block of time to help with all facets of the design decisions. She was very flexible and accommodating with her schedule - fitting me in between meetings and responding in a timely manner online with ideas and suggestions in order to meet critical decision timelines. At the time, it was not a good time for her to take on additional work, as she was busy with other projects, but agreed to help me get through it, as long I could be somewhat flexible.
There were countless problems with the "build" firm which frequently had me looping back to get her additional considerations/insights - they were always timely, relevant and high value.
The bathroom is simply stunning. All I can say is that Melissa saved my a** on this project. Having worked with another designer in the past, and this experience was in different league entirely. I should also note that I estimate she actually put in at least 50% more time than what we agreed on.
I would recommend her highly, and will use her again. .

I contacted Melissa to help me with the interior design of my home. Since I live in a small studio (approximately 400 square feet), I was having trouble figuring out the best use of the space - in other words, getting the most functionality out of the limited square footage, while also creating an environment that spoke to my personal taste. At our first meeting, Melissa really took the time to find out what I was looking for from my home. She asked me questions about what worked and didn't work in my current set-up, what kind of atmosphere I was looking to create, my general lifestyle, and how I thought my studio could best support my daily habits and needs.
From that interview, Melissa came back with three different potential layouts for the space, along with a thorough sampling of possible ideas for the furniture and color schemes. Frankly, I was totally impressed that she was able to come up with three layouts for such a small space. She asked for my feedback and we ended up combining features that I liked from two of the plans to create a "fourth" scheme, that would serve as the jumping off point for the project. I could tell from her presentation that she had really listened to what I had told her and put a great deal of thought into my life, aesthetic sensibilities, and budget.
After we came up with the overall plan, I got to work shopping for the furniture that would make up the "bones" of the space. Since Melissa's research was so thorough and really gave me a concrete vision of what I should (and maybe more importantly, should not) be looking for both size-wise and aesthetically, I felt empowered to make wise decisions about what I should purchase and where I should be spending my money. (In fact, I loved many of the pieces that she personally selected and bought quite a few of them!) After the furniture had been selected, she helped me to pull it all together - by picking paint colors and finishes for the walls and ceiling, recommending an excellent painter (Rick Sibley) who did a stellar job, selecting accessories and accent pieces, and hanging the artwork. When the project came to a close, I was thrilled with the final result. Every time I walk through the front door, I am so happy to come home to a space that I love. It's everything I wanted - functional, beautiful, cozy, and warm.
Throughout the entire process, Melissa was an absolute professional - creative, efficient, communicative, and collaborative. I personally thought of her as my "design coach" during this project. After every meeting, she would always summarize what "my homework assignment" was - from tagging inspirational photos on the web to purchasing furniture or finding artwork - which really helped me not get overwhelmed by all the decisions that had to be made and just focus on the next step towards creating my dream home. She always made sure to check in with me to see how things were going, offer guidance when I was stuck on a decision, and just generally keep the ball rolling. I know that without her services this project would have taken much longer, been much more stressful, and wouldn't have turned out as wonderful as it did. I would definitely (and have) recommended her to friends and family in need of design services.

It went well, although the project took longer than we expected. Settling on a workable floor plan came first, followed by selecting the main pieces of furniture.  We sent the carpets out for cleaning, and found people who wanted our old furniture. Then the question of what colors to paint the walls; a lot of thought went into that.  We decided we needed a large painting for a bare wall, and looked at hundreds, finally choosing a harbor landscape.  Painters recommended by Melissa came and did a super job, then an electrician installed the lighting fixtures which finished the job except for curtains, which are up finally.
It was quite an exciting process, and we are happy with the result.

It went very well. We accomplished alot in the time alloted, and she answered email questions from me as I was progressing. I took her advice and love the results!

We can't say enough about how pleased we've been with Melissa's work. Before she started any work, she sat down and talked with my wife and I about our daily life, our likes and dislikes, what we're excited about - it set a nice tone for the project and seemed to key her in on what design would work for us. From there, she not only guided us in terms of layouts and colors, but she really helped us out with whatever we needed. Both my wife and I can be very indecisive when it comes to new purchases and renovations, so it was great to have someone who had a clear vision of what worked and what didn't work in our space. Additionally, we loved that she made our old house have a more youthful and modern feel to it without giving up any of the charm. After we moved in, we hired a contractor to create the kitchen island and bookshelf that Melissa designed. When we started to have questions about his work, Melissa came to the rescue with someone that she's worked with several times who did an amazing job finishing up the project. We've had many compliments on the island she designed and the bookshelf in our sunroom. My wife loved that the fact that Melissa was always there to bounce ideas off of or offer an opinion based on a picture or website link. Given how much time she spent on the project, my wife and I both felt she was extremely reasonably priced.

Before meeting Melissa Hammond, I was a bit intimidated about hiring an interior designer. I was afraid that it was going to be way out of my price range and that my house wasn't "grand" enough to find a designer to help us out, but I felt that I was going to spend more money fixing mistakes (eg poor paint color choices etc) and that I should atleast investigate my options. Upon meeting Melissa, I was put at ease by how down-to-earth she was, and very unassuming about how we should decorate our house. She understood that we didn't necessarily have an unlimited budget and appreciated that we needed a design that was functional, especially with an infant who would be getting herself into everything sooner than later. She spent time to grasp a sense of our personal style, and using that as a guide, she showed us lots of different options for every component of the total design. She definitely took the time to make sure that what we picked out was what we wanted. Since our initial agreement, I've asked her to help in other areas of our house (bedroom/dining room) and we're still in the process of finishing those projects... once we're done I'm sure I'll probably hook her to help us with the other areas of our house.

They were every professional, and had a good design sense. They were also timely and responsive. They were excellent overall.
