Doctor Plumbers

They came to my house (one of them stunk of weed but whatever it's 2020), spent about 2 minutes looking at my air conditioner and then announced it HAD to be replaced and it could be done for SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. So I do what everyone else would do, I shop around. I uncover (thanks to some helpful locals) I can try and change the capacitor myself to see if that helps. A new capacitor cost me THIRTY DOLLARS. Guess what? It worked. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go with someone else, they can not be trusted with your business. I saved myself six thousand, nine hundred and seventy dollars by literally asking around. You can too!!!

I can't say whether their fee was competitive or not, but I can say that they were incredibly fast. My AC broke, I contacted them via Angie's List after 5pm and got an immediate call. They came the next morning, diagnosed my 18 to 20 year old AC condenser as needing replacement, and installed a replacement by 1:30pm. I was without AC for less than 21 hours after contacting them! Very impressive.

Angie's List suggested Doctor Plumber and three other HVAC companies to perform routine maintenance on a condenser. Doctor Plumber called me promptly and accommodated my schedule. When the service workers arrived, they quoted me close to $800 to add refrigerant and clean the units. It seemed like a high price to me, but I did not have a point of reference, and the men were already on the roof. Later, I found out that I was charged an unusually high amount for routine maintenance and that other customers had posted about similar experiences. I called the company to inquire, but, unlike the initial intake, I have not heard back from them.

This company had positive reviews when Angie's List recommended them to me - but when looking at other similar names there are very bad reviews that are clearly the same company. Furthermore there are credible and worrisome reviews on yelp and the Better Business bureau: [*** Link removed ***] Overall, my negative experience is due to the fact that the part was not installed correctly and it led to my basement being flooded. Mistakes happen, but the owner did not answer or return my call promptly during the emergency, refused to admit he could be at fault or to cover the modest amount I had to pay for another plumber to fix his work. He frequently responds to other customer online reviews in a hostile and defensive tone. This business does not reflect what I consider Angie's List level of quality vetting.
