Chip Gill Landscape & Design

2009 was the second year I used this service. In 2008 I just used them for mowing the lawn and spring/fall clean up, with fairly good results. In 2009, I decided to also use them for the full year's yard service, including trimming a number of trees on our property as well as trimming all of our hedges and shrubs, and made the mistake of prepaying for the entire year - NOT WORTH THE 7.5% DISCOUNT. While the lawn mowing and clean-up services were fine, the trimming turned into a nightmare. I had orginally hired them to minimize the amount of oversite and work I would have to do by hiring inidividual contractors separately or doing it myself, but in the end I would have spent much less time if I had done it myself. Chip's crew did ok when they showed up, but they did not have sufficient oversight and didn't always know what they needed to trim even after property walk-throughs and very specific emails to the owner. I called and/or emailed weekly starting in August until the work was finally complete in December. Trying to get the work which I had already paid for complete ended up being a full time job. Do not use them for anything more complex than mowing the lawn.

Overall went well. His estimate was one reasonable ($20,000 less than the top one!). Chip suggested the lighting which was not in our original plan and this was an excellent addition. Workers were very reliable, arrived early, worked hard, cleaned up every day. Owner (Chip Gill) could have been on site more. We noted a problem with the layout of stone wall the workers were building. Chip responded and corrected problem, but he should have noticed it. Once the job was largely done, he has been less responsive about responding to problems with erosion in back which is undermining patio. This has left an unresolved issue which is a shame because we love how the landscaping and lighting look.
