Our latest finds are from this summer/fall (2012). The deck was about to fall off the house; we just got it fixed. It was attached by 2 long NAILS...no support underneath. We are also updating the kitchen. The new contractor found that the support beams over the kitchen sink area were compromised by holes drilled through the beams at 4 points...about 4" in diameter each. Drain pipes were fit through. He said that if we had about 3' of snow on our roof...the second floor could have collapsed onto the first! He did the calculations from a computer program. Luckily the insulation was improperly put in and that did not happen, as the snow melted! Over the 21 years we have lived here we have repeatedly found code violations and sub-standard work. No, I would definetely NOT recommend this builder.
Description of Work: We purchased our home from the first owner of the house who sold it to us 4 years after having it built. It was built by Karen Laverdiere while she was in college to finance her tuition etc. She did so with the guidance of her brother Ronald. The house is 25 years old presently. How they got around the building code is a puzzle to me and to those who have worked on the house since then. Does not speak well of the inspectors at the time of construction.
