In the middle of a rainstorm, our sump pump was working overtime. Then, suddenly the pipe leading outside broke and water flooded the basement. It was a Sunday evening, and I found Jim on Angie's List. I called and he answered immediately, and drove over to the house. He assessed the situation and went to Home Depot for the necessary parts. We were so relieved ant thankful! I was very impressed that Jim came on a Sunday night (during NCAA basketball playoffs!) and helped us out so much. I would

After turning our outdoor faucet for the first time after the winter, our laundry room flooded due to a split pipe in the wall leading out to the faucet. It was on a Saturday so we were in a bit of panic to find a solution. After some searching on Angie's List, we called Jim, who came over to look at it within an hour [free of charge, no less] because "I heard the panic in your voice." [Yay, Jim!] He assessed the problem as not being critical so long as we didn't use the faucet again and then returned on Monday to replace the split pipe and installed a frost-free sillcock and shutoff to ensure problem didn't occur next winter. And counseled us on other measures we can take to prevent it from happening.
Professional, courteous, and willing to come over on a Saturday. Absolute lifesaver.
An additional note: he's a master plumber for a larger company but does his customer work on the side, so he's not personally bonded or insured. We didn't have a problem but thought it may be important to some other folks.

We had heard the toilet running for a while and were unable to adjust the arm inside the tank (it turned out the gasket had simply disintegrated). When we noticed the leaking, we called Jim and he offered to come by that day, tho' we were willing to wait until Monday! He replaced the mechanism after showing us how the parts had deteriorated.
In an unrelated incident, the pipe below the bathroom sink had just given way when we were cleaning the trap. He noted that the pipe had already been repaired at least once with pipe lengths of differing sizes and materials. He came back Monday morning when he could get proper parts and added the new pipe.

We heard a leak in the basement and collected water in a bucket for a couple of days before remembering to call Jim the Plumber. He said he would be in the area in 2 days and would call late Saturday morning. He did and came right over. He inspected the leak in a large copper pipe coming from the kitchen drain and noted that it was cracked almost the length of the pipe. We also remembered to point out a leaky faucet in the bathroom (tho' I had forgotten to tell him about it beforehand). He said he would need to replace the workings as well as get the length of pipe for the basement and would come back Monday morning.
Later Saturday morning he called back and asked if we were still home (we were). He had the parts and offered to fix the 2 problems immediately!
He collected his fee on his way out the door, saving me the cost of a stamp.

Tub was badly clogged (standing water for 24 hours). We called "Jim the Plumber" who has done several small jobs (leaking pipes) for us in the past. He came almost immediately (from Holyoke to Amherst), but found that he didn't have the tools to reach the clog. He called in the "Drain Medic", called me with their contact info, and charged us nothing for his time, travel, and effort!
