The roof on our house was almost 20 years old and needed repair or replacement along with the gutters and fascia boards.  We got quotes from three contractors from ServiceMagic and two from the Acton Unlimited newsletter.  I found Bill on AngiesList and he worked with me to get me the lowest quote.  From the beginning I found Bill to be extremely helpful and reasonable. He was the only contractor that went up on the roof to inspect it thoroughly before providing me a quote.  All the others just looked at it from the ground or from the attic. He would give me justification for any price quotes he provided. He was a bit difficult to schedule; I assume that's because he is too busy. His crew did an amazing job and even though they had budgeted 2 days of work, it took them a little longer since there was some damage to the siding that needed to be fixed but they wouldn't leave until everything was fixed and I had approved the work.  The total amount that I paid after the work was complete was marginally more than what Bill had quoted before starting the work even though they clearly fixed a lot of issues on the roof and the siding. I am a big fan of this team and of Bill and I highly recommend anybody thinking of replacing a roof and not knowing what that means to turn to Bill.

Bill was great to work with and very attentive to our roof issues. He continued to stay engaged during the bidding process and offered suggestions to improve and correct flaws from original roof design. Work crew started promptly on scheduled date and completed ahead of schedule (all work completed in one day!). The work crew was large and worked very efficiently and skillfully. After completion the crew meticulously circled the house several times picking up any remaining debris. Overall Bill and his work crew were very accomodating and attentive to our needs.

A great experience! I had received three quotes via Service Magic that were all within range and somewhat similar specs. Two of the quotes were from larger, well marketed companies and the third from a very small 3 man operation that low-balled a quote. I was looking for someone that instilled more confidence and who used Certainteed products (which are highly recommended by Consumer Reports.) Using Certainteed's site I learned alot about their roofing system and their certified "Select Shingle Roofers" who go through very demanding education and training. I contacted the local Certainteed Select Shingle Roofer in Acton (Minuteman) and received an email back quickly from Bill Hall who asked if I could delay my decision for a few days so he could deal with his wife's emergency back problems and then come see me on the weekend. I said ok hoping this would not be a waste of time and on Saturday Bill, his brother Al and a third guy came over. The first thing I noticed about the three of them is their maturity - these are experienced veterans. The second thing that impressed me is that they sent three guys out to collaboratively inspect and discuss the job. In this day and age that sort of attention to detail and work is unheard of. They got into the fine details like needing to use 1" nails on the porch with cathedral ceiling. Finally, and not inconsequentially, is Bill Hall's personality. Bill is the relationship guy and he did an excellent job of making me feel comfortable. He's likable and trustworthy and that goes a long way when you are giving someone a large amount of money. After Bill's guys discussed the job, we talked about my needs and special requests and then he gave me an informal quote of $4/sq. foot. But he also explained that it was a competitive market and he would match anyones price. He said, "I want your business, name your price." I liked that directness - like a politician asking for your vote. I named my price and he said ok - that simple. Later that day he emailed me an official quote which I signed and we agreed to get the job started the upcoming Friday. It was a smooth process and I just knew that I was making the right decision. I did speak to two references and they both said I would be very happy and have no problems. Ultimately it was the combination of the Certainteed products, the thoroughness of the review of the job, the accommodation to fix some water damage, the warmth of Bill and the Certainteed "Select Shingle Roofer" certification that convinced me to go with Minuteman. Bill also agreed to leave the dumpster container around for me to fill up with some of my own junk which was a life saver. When it came to doing the job, the crew, run by Steve, was excellent. They were punctual, efficient, friendly, communicative, careful, clean and fun to have around. And most importantly their work was perfect. The roof looks great and its clear that they did a very high quality job. The crew showed up on Saturday morning after postponing on Friday due to rain. They got right to work and had half the roof shingled in a day. They came back on Sunday morning at 7:30 AM (after asking my permission) and finished the other half of the roof. When you choose a roofer or contractor you never really know how things will work out until the job is finished. You can only have an instinct based on past success and they way people present themselves. Bill Hall and the team at Minuteman Roofing delivered and I have complete confidence that the job was done right. No buyers remorse or lingering questions, here, whatsoever. That's a nice feeling.

Excellent. Job started promptly, ran for 5 to 6 days in the fall where temperature and short days provided additional challenges. The material and dumpster showed up the day prior to start. The sequence was basically on the side of the house each day, one day for the garage and one day to demolish our shed. They removed three layers of shingles and throughout the day and by end of each day had certainly cleaned up the job site very carefully. They were very concerned about nails. I am confident that first, I won't have any issues from this job, and second, if I did they would repair and replace any areas that needed attention with no arbitration.
