When I received my furniture, much of it was severely water damaged and broken. many of these items were family heirlooms, which my parent had moved around the world for years, but BIG Foot managed to destroy them in a move from Bourne, Massachusetts to Arlington. I requested compensation for the water damage. I organized an adjust to come to my home and priced out things on my own. There were many old books that were fuzzy with mold. At first, Big Foot's owner and sales rep were friendly. I claimed about $4000. But then they told me they were having a heard time contacting their insurance company or their landlord about the damage, which they said resulted from a leak on the outside of the building...a leak that had resulted from the snow in the winter of 2015, more than 6 months before my furniture delivery!!!
So once I started to push a bit harder for compensation, Mike and Jim did a 180 and said I was a fool for not taking out more insurance and told me not to be so EMOTIONAL!!!! They said they only were required to compensate me 60 cents per pound, which was the insurance standard with my contract, but that they were not responsible for the leak and thus need not pay more.
It is very unfortunately that I paid $400 per month for more than two years for a climate controlled space only to have my belongings destroyed. Clearly, no amount of money can make up for this loss. But, I find it despicable that Mike Bravuso can so callously claim he owes me nothing more.
"We are sorry that [Member Name Removed] is disappointed with the recent claim resolution. We were just as surprised by water damage to her property. The all-time seasonal snow fall record of 110 inches this past winter (2015) may have caused the roof failure. As discussed with [Member Name Removed], we’ve never had a roof leak claim before. The issue was immediately addressed with a commercial roofing service company to ensure all defects were properly sealed. We realize this doesn’t fix the damage to her storage lot but please know that we would never subject our customers’ property to such conditions intentionally. Our experienced team does everything possible to protect our customers items but sometimes things may happen out of our control. For this reason, warehouse valuation options are (and were) offered to all our customers. Valuation options and pricing is discussed during the sales process, found on our website, clearly portrayed in our estimates, and of course, discussed at the time of pick-up, etc. We explained the various valuation levels and encouraged [Member Name Removed] to add protection on her move to storage and while her goods were in storage. Unfortunately, she declined additional coverage and opted for the minimum requirement of .60 cents per pound at no additional charge. We realize the settlement she received is considerably less than the amount that she claimed, but in accordance with the level of valuation that she selected for your shipment and the regulations that govern our industry, we are prohibited from paying any sum in excess of our legal liability. A full and final settlement check of $666.00 was issued to [Member Name Removed] on 12/21/2015."
them to move into the house we are now leaving, to move into our new single
family home.
The crew, (1 lead and 2 additional movers) called us ahead and arrived on time. Prior to the move, a representative
came out to see the location and furniture and make sure the movers would be prepared for
everything we had. Upon arrival the guys took a look at our stuff and worked
very quickly and orderly to pack and load things, using lots of blankets and
placing things just right to avoid damage. We have many antiques and fragile
furniture among the load, and not one thing was damaged! These guys are
professional, friendly, efficient, and helped me especially, to "get
through" the stress of the move. I always recommend them when someone I
know is moving - THANKS BIG FOOT!!!
These guys are fast. I initially got a 6 hour estimate over the phone. But they got our 1 bed loaded into the truck in less than an hour. Only took them about another hour to unload. At the same time they were really attentive. "Are you moving this?" "Do you have any other storage spaces in the basement or hallway?". The boxes were all placed in the right rooms in the new place. No complaints.
The only snag in the whole day, which was not at all their fault, was that we weren't able to get our old couch into our new place. The landing was just too tight. It wasn't for lack of effort. They took the feet off the couch, held it in about a thousand different positions, but it just wasn't geometrically possible. They even took it back downstairs and tried the back stairs to no avail. They really tried everything.
Even with all that, they were extremely careful not to damage the walls or ceilings.
The price per hour was a bit more than we had intended to spend, but it was worth it. All told it ended up being about a three hour job from start to finish.
The following day, the same crew, minus the initial lead, can right on time to move me in. The same young man from the prior day was left inside the condo and the other two emptied the truck and brough items up for the young man to move into the actual condo from the hall. The clang and bang became the least of things. After an initial review of where I wanted big items placed , ie sofa, I entered the den to find the whole wall where the sofa was to go covered in boxes- they all had to be moved. A while later I looked in the den again and there were different boxes along the sofa wall, again all needed to be moved. The bathroom was covered in boxes, including piled high on the vanity counter top. I couldn't have used the sink if I wanted to- again everything had to be moved. Boxes were pushed across the new wood floor, and boxes piled on top of furniture, ie a rose wood cabinet. Boxes should never have been placed on furniture. When I saw this young man attempting to move my grandmother's 100+ year old china cabinet by himself I called a halt. The day prior, this very precious piece of family history had been cared for/moved with exquisite care. Not so this time. I spoke with the lead and the assignments were changed. I was very unhappy. I was even more unhappy later as I unpacked. Over all, the packing was well done- with several exceptions. I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened up a box to find a waterford crystal lamp in one corner and a Lladro porceline figurine in another- without one single piece of padding or protection- just stuck in corners. Neither was broken so I guess this was testament to skill, but not well done.
I went with the pricier services of Big Foot because of their history of quality with me- and I couldn't have been more disappointed. Sad to say but I still have boxes I haven't yet unpacked but there are things in those boxes that should have been placed in/outside of the bathroom, etc that weren't. So I have things that I can't find, that should have been delivered to the rooms they were removed from ie bath to bath. Some boxes from my old storage units had no where to be left and I was asked if they could use the shelves over the washer/dryer, I had no problem with that and I said yes as long as they were light. Well, I can't get them down myself so I don't figure they are very light. So far the shelves are holding but I have to find someone to help me get these things down-- very inconvenient.
Very very disappointed in Big Foot.
The Big Foot crew members were very polite and truly worked as a team. They were exceptionally careful moving things, especially furniture, making sure to avoid damaging the walls or floors of both our house or our new apartment. As far as I can tell, everything arrived intact and neither our house or apartment suffered any damage. They arrived at our house about 10 minutes early and completed the entire move in about 5 1/2 hours. Because we'd gotten rid of so much stuff between the original estimate and the move day, we ended up saving appromixately $200 because they didn't charge us for the second truck. We paid them at the end of the move. I would recommend Big Foot to anyone making a move in the Boston area---prompt, professional, and friendly.
Good job at a fair price. Would recommend them to anybody in the Boston area.
As above. This is the second time I've used these movers--actually had 3 of the guys I had 2 years ago. I get the impression it's a good company to work for--satisfied employees means more pleasant customer interaction. I used them the first time on someone else's recommendation.
The movers were serious about their work, including review of the paperwork, insurance, etc., and talked and joked during the whole move--except perhaps toward the end when we were all tired.
No move is painless, but the company and the movers they employ are worth it!
