great service, great quality of items sold

First just looked around. The lady who ground the coffee was very nice and prompt. Then looked for a gift...no one in the front asked if they could help me...When the coffee lady came up front with my coffee, I asked her about the gift I wanted to purchase and she helped me. When I got to cash register to pay, the young woman there did not smile or say a word except to tell me the price. I did not get a sense of helpfulness or enjoyment of job. I may or may not go back in again.

This local hardware store is only a few blocks from my house, and in the negihborhood where I have lived for years. As I try to support local businesses, I went there to rent a carpet cleaner. Since they aren't open on Sundays- I had to pay more to rent it. The staff is unhelpful- they made sure they finished their personal conversations with other employees before acknowledging me both times I went in (to rent and then to return.) Pretty much- if you aren't a man or a botoxed housewife, they do not give you the time of day. And there was not one offender- there were at least 3. Then the person who filled out my personal information on the rental form took 5 minutes to do so while the cashier sat uninterestedly staring off into space- with not even a smile as I stood there. Upon returning the device on time and having to take off work to do so, I had to stand and wait again, unrecognized as a customer, while the manager (I guess) talked to some old women, then finished working on a display until acknowledging my presence. She didnt say "hi", just said "it will be a few minutes for them to get the book." Why couldn't she go get it? I politely mentioned I was in a hurry to get back at work, to which she replied "we're all busy"- even though no one else was in the store. It is sad to say that I would rather drive 10 miles instead of 2 blocks to go to Lowe's or Home Depot than to a local business becuase the corporate giants have better customer service. And don't even get me started on their overpriced items. Customer service normally overpowers pricing in my mind, but not this place. I will definitely NEVER go here again.
