While David Miller appears to be a genuine nice guy, the work he performed (duh, I mean mostly contracted out) was substandard. 1) he contracts out most of the work or brings a friend with him. One of his "friends" stole $125 from me when he was paid to do some yard work, never showed, and then promptly dropped off the grid. I never saw him bring the same "friend" twice. Can you say day labor? 2) If you use this man's service you must: a) Get it in writing--listing out all job elements and cost. He did not prepare an estimate of the job, only a verbal agreement between us was made. GET THE JOB IN WRITING! b) NEVER, NEVER, NEVER pay him fully until the job is completed. I paid half upon job commencent 3/18 and the remainder on 4/1. After full payment, the job was not completed until 5/17!! c) Ask exactly who will be performing the work. He operates his business out of his house/truck. No office, no employees. d) Never leave anyone at home alone to do the work. As I said he contracts the work and although he seems to be a clean-cut, friendly, likeable guy, his contracted workers not so much (except for the lighting guys). 3) The best part of the job was done by the contractor who replaced the lighting. A clean professional job--these guys were pros. 4) The cabinet doors were made by another contractor who also did a good job once David got it right on what I asked. He had a problem listing to me. For example, as the cabinet boxes are particle board I told him that anchors must be used. He didn't and sure enough that night after he left I opened a door and it came off in my hand. He had to unscrew them all and go back with anchors and longer screws. 5) He did not listen to me when I said I want the doors in the pantry to look like the doors in the kitchen that have hidden hinges. So he finally brings the doors and guess what, cheap non-hidden hinges were on the doors. They had to go back to the cabinet guy who had to fill in the holes drilled for the non-hidden hinges. This cause the doors to need a lot of sanding. 6) Ok let me talk about painting the doors. What a disaster. First, he did most of the work at night (partly to meet my schedule but mostly to meet his). There was one day labor guy in my garage trying to paint the doors at night with no light. When I looked at them the next morning, they were awful. Steaks, some places just missed. He painted again (oh and by the way didn't put plastic down so there is paint on my driveway now). Again, they looked awful. I wound up paying another $200 to have some guy (he never told me who) spray paint the doors because the job David was doing was pitiful (he used a brush and not a roller leaving every streak seen). When they finally arrived they looked awful too. Paint gauges, streaks. Awful. Again they went back. Even now that they are hung there are spots on the inside that look bad. Bad. 7) Caveat emptor!
Description of Work: Painted a laundry room and pantry, contracted the removal of (2) fluorescent light panels and replacement with 6 overhead can lights, contracted the making of 14 cabinet doors (original boxes reused) and ended up contracting the painting of all 14 doors.
