This company is so hard to work with!! If I could easily get out of my contract without having to pay another compan to require my house again, I would!! ASG/USA Fire has messed up my bill every single billing cycle since I have been with this company (~1 year).  Every 3 months, I have to call them to inquire about my bill because every billing cycle charge has been different since my alarm system was installed. I have never been billed the same amount twice (even though my services with them have never changed) - whether its an improper double charge, incorrect prorating, or an increase in the yearly fees without any notice whatsoever - my bill is always screwed up.  Either they charge the wrong amount, or they don't charge enough and I have to chase them to charge the correct amount, because they deemed me "late on my payment" even though they have my automatic debit set up and charged an amount, just not the full amount due. The  customer service is absolutely horrible!! And when I have attempted to contact them either to speak to someone about my bill inconsistancies or speak to someone about ending my contract, I have to call multiple times because no one ever answers the phone when you need customer service. Horrible company!!

USA Fire and Burgler installed a home security system for me.  They were prompt and professional, however I did have some issues with the system after it was installed.  The Glass Break Monitor kept going off, for unknown reasons and at the worst times.  After sending out several service techs at several different times, they finally replaced it with the window sensor.  Now I don't have any problems at all.  The prices are competitive, as I did a lot of shopping around and got quotes before deciding with USA. The actual alarm unit its a touch system, which took some getting used to. I like the keychain entry, makes it much easier to come and go. Overall, I'm satisfied.

The company rep was prompt, gave us all the information we needed to make our decision.  Another rep called to set up our appointment and the service rep called to confirm and showed up at the appointed time.  He was nice, courteous, professional and did the work in a very timely manner.

We interviewed several providers. Brian came at the appointed time in the evening and was thorough, efficient, friendly, and professional.  We decided, given the options, to use a Louisiana company with Louisiana connections, rather than try to do this ourselves.  We were pleased with Brian's candor and transparency regarding how USA does business.
Anthony, the installer, kept us informed on the appointed day as to when he would arrive.  He spent the planned amount of time to cleanly and professionally install the system.  He then showed us how the box worked, especially how to change the names and dates of personal access from the box.  He showed us the fob system, and then spent a great deal of time with us working online.   He stayed two hours and answered all our questions.  If we have any more questions, we can leave a message on his work phone and he will call us back.
I have no problems or complaints, just praise for how USA handled our sales and installation.

Our salesman, Michael, was prompt and friendly. Naturally, he gave us the pitch complete with video, but it was succinct.  He thoroughly explained our options and factored in all costs (e.g. home phone line, etc.) to help us make a decision. We didn't feel pressured at all.
Our house came with a monitoring system that looks like something dinosaurs used compared to the new panel we got. Installation was painless and everything was fully explained. The installer walked me through everything he did and was very courteous.
When our alarm goes off, we get a call from the company immediately. There's an app for our smartphones that allows us to remotely turn the alarm on and off, and notifies us with critical messages.  We've never had any problems with the system or the personnel.
Currently, we receive our services for $84 per quarter and the installation was around $700. There is no need for us to have a home phone, either. We are even able to set up individual pass codes for our friends who take care of our house while we're out of town. The app on our phones allows us to see exactly when and who comes in and how long they're in the house. The panel is really appealing, easy to use, and is mobile so when we move, we can take it with us.

Update.  USA has been very responsive since our last review.  We had issues again, and this time the technician was great.  The technician was prompt, informative and very customer-friendly.  USA has made an effort to keep our business and work with us on future issues.  This is a much better way to do business!

USA installed our alarm system for both our unit and our rental unit in 2008.  We had no issues with the service until about 2010.  Our alarm system stopped working, and we called the customer service line.  USA was not receiving a signal, so they sent a technician.  The tech arrived and found the alarm line cut below the house.  The line was cut clean, and not gnawed through by a rodent.  The tech said that he would have to charge us a service fee since this was not his companies fault.  When my husband questioned the charge and wondered if we were actually responsible for the cut line, believe that it was part of the contract to provide service.  The tech threatened to remove the whole alarm system if we didn't pay.  We went ahead and reluctantly paid the fee, a little shocked at the tech's response to so quickly lose our business.
This past fall, our phone line stopped working.  Our cable tech came out and fixed the phone line.  However, the alarm system was still not working.  We called USA customer service.  The customer service rep stated that they were not receiving a signal again.  I asked how we could fix, and he said "I don't know what to tell you."  He recommended that we call the cable company to come out and take a look again.  The cable company came back out to find that all lines were properly connected through the phone and the alarm system.  We called USA while the cable tech was onsite.  Again, the USA customer service rep again said "I don't know what to tell you.  There is no signal."  He stated that there would be a service fee for a tech to come out because he was sure it was not their fault.  When we stated that we would probably look for a new alarm company, he said "Ok."  This is NOT the way to do business.

"I apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding you may have experienced. After checking our records it does show you were charged for a phone line repair in August 2011 due to a cut wire. Your system communicated from 2008 to 2011 with no problems. USA's maintenance program is designed to save you costly repairs due to Mechanical Failure. As with all alarm companies, Non Mechanical failure is not covered. Damage due to weather, rodents, physical damage and many others including a cut wire is not covered under the maintenance contract, I do apologize for the technicians comments as removing your alarm system is not our policy. USA wants to make sure you, your family and valuables are well protected. Checking our records after our technician left your alarm system did communicate properly. When your system does not communicate the panel will flash an error code FC on the screen and you should always call immediately for service. We received a call from you on December 28th 2012 regarding another communication failure. Our service representative did explain there could be a service fee if there is non mechanical failure. Of course if the problem is due something we have done or a problem with the alarm panel your maintenance contract would cover that and there would be no charge. Please understand it is our policy to explain charges that may be incurred so that our customers are well informed, It is very important to us that you alarm system is working all day everyday and we will be happy to work with you to that end. I will have my Service Manager call you to discuss getting your system operating properly. Thank you"

The work they did was shoddy. They did a shoddy installation. They had cut a water pipe while doing the installation but they never came back and fixed it. The system works fine and the monitoring is fine. It is a cheap monitoring service but I get what I pay for. I don’t have any problem with the alarm system. I have surveillance cameras in my house, and I asked them to give me a sign that said tat the house was being monitored by surveillance cameras but they told me that they couldn’t give me one since I was not using their surveillance cameras. It is a great service if you want something cheap but the people aren’t friendly. It just serves the purpose.
Response from USA Fire & Burglar Alarm LLC
"I apologize for any inconvenience or misunderstanding you may have experienced. With regards to the water pipe - According to our records, your house was under construction. Our technician did in fact accidentally hit your water pipe while drilling a hole for an alarm wire. The water pipe was fixed by your contractor/plumber since the house was under construction and U.S.A. fixed and paid for the sheetrock repair that was necessary after the water pipe repair. All of this was in accordance to your satisfaction, according to our records. With regards to cheap monitoring - U.S.A. does provide affordable monitoring service. Why pay more for monitoring service when all alarm monitoring works the same way - your alarm goes off and the appropriate authorities are notified and/or dispatched. In fact, our monitoring station is UL listed, 5 Diamond certified which are two of the hardest and highest accreditations for a monitoring station. With regards to the camera sign - It is U.S.A.'s policy to only give a customer a yard sign for the services that we provide. Since we isntalled the alarm system, we provided you with an alarm yard sign. The camera sign states that the property is under 24 hour live/recorded video surveillance by U.S.A. Fire & Burglar Alarm. If U.S.A. provided you a camera sign when U.S.A. did not install the camera system, U.S.A. would be misrepresenting the company. I'm sure the company that did install the camera system would be more than happy to provide you with their camera sign. We appreciate that you have been a customer since 2007 and were unaware of any service and/or customer service issues that you had with U.S.A. before this Angie's List report. U.S.A. Fire & Burglar Alarm understands that without great customer service a business will never grow. We strive to give peace of mind to all residential and commercial property owners by having a dedicated team of professionals, who are always honest, knowledgeable, and understanding, providing excellent customer service and unbeatable value. We hope that this response has resolved any inconveniences and misunderstatings. We appreciate your business and hope to continue to service your security needs."

My story is rather long, but it's for your protection.  We checked with USA after we installed the windows to ask the price of reinstalling the contacts in case we could not do it ourselves.  Old contacts were not going to fit on new windows without some adjustments so we knew we might run into trouble.  The price USA quoted was $12.50 per contact.  The USA rep said "We can usually just add some layers of double stick foam tape and make the old ones work."   The charge would only be for labor--$65 for first 1/2 hour and $30 for each 15 minute segment thereafter.  The man arrived for the job and was very nice but told my husband it would take a long time because he had to wait on the adhesive to set (???), so it would be faster if he just put on new contacts.  Spent an hour doing it (that's $125 for labor), then $350 for contacts!!  My husband pays the bill (I was out of town and was the one who had dealt with them on the phone.)  He laters calls USA to ask why they charged $25 per window.  The answer:  It's $12.50 PER PIECE--2 pieces per window (that's an expensive little magnet in a tiny plastic casing!).  I consider that to be dishonest!   I will say that when my husband raised an objection to the cost, the installer said he would only charge us for 14 windows (when he actually installed 21 contacts).  But $12.50 for 21 windows (as quoted on the phone) is only $262.50--considerably less than the $350 he charged for 14 windows (at $25 per window). Giving the man credit, he did a nice, neat job.  I don't like USA.  They aren't exactly what I consider to be a company that is always honest.  When we switched to them because of their low monthly monitoring fee, I got a bad taste in my mouth.  The installer just couldn't "get the code to reset" so he could reprogram it.  The only solution?  Install a new panel for $199.  (I'm learning this is a common practice.  Easy way to take advantage of customers.) He spent 20 minutes (MAX)  "supposedly" changing the panel.  It cannot be done in 20 minutes, for sure.  I think he changed the door, added the USA sticker and walked away with all the money I would have saved my first year with them.  There were other things I was suspicious of but once you've switched over, you feel stuck.  It's too expensive to switch again.  Their monthly monitoring is a bargain but be forewarned.  Have a friend there who knows something about alarms (it's not rocket science--any engineer could help you--if only I had asked our engineer friend who had only had one course in electrical eng. in advance rather than after!) and can challenge the installer when he says "the system won't reset--the code isn't working" and then you won't get taken as we were.  When I discovered all this, it was too late.  The initial installer was gone, had taken my "old panel" and I had no proof of anything.
Response from USA Fire & Burglar Alarm LLC
"I apologize for any inconvenience and misunderstanding that you may have experienced. With regard to the service call on your windows, it is U.S.A.'s policy to reconnect your existing equipment if it is in working order. The only reasons that U.S.A. may not have been able to use your existing window switches/magnets in this instance is if the parts were bad, a part was missing, or if your husband requested to purchase the new equipment. U.S.A. would never intentionally install new equipment just to make money off of a customer. We are in the business to satisfy our customer's and know that without customer satisfaction we would not be in business. With regard to the pricing of the equipment, U.S.A. has flat standard pricing. Our service labor fee is $65 per half hour, $30 every 15 minutes thereafter. For the pieces of a contact, the prices are as follows: a switch is $12.50, a magnet is $12.50, a switch/magnet combo is $25, a brand new contact in it's entirety is $49.50. These prices are considerably less than our competition and national companies. For instance a new contact in it's entirety from another company can cost upwards of $80. For the service that was completed at your house, you were charged for 1 hour of labor at $125 and $25 per switch/magnet combo for the 14 windows at $350 for the equipment. The total cost was $475. With regards to your experience of becoming a U.S.A. customer and switching your service over to U.S.A., I apologize for your feeling of dishonesty and would like to clarify any misconceptions and/or misunderstandings. When it comes to switching over a customer's existing alarm system to be monitored by U.S.A., it is always U.S.A.'s intention to use the existing equipment if in fact it can be reprogrammed. Unfortunately in your situation, the installer code that allows the technician to reprogram the system had been changed by your previous alarm company. Therefore, without the installer code from your previous alarm company we could not get into your existing alarm system to reprogram your alarm system to communicate with our monitoring station. Since you wished to become a U.S.A. customer, the solution for U.S.A. to monitor the alarm system was to change out only your alarm panel and one keypad but use the rest of your existing alarm system devices. Let it be clear, that every existing system is different and the majority of our customers that have an existing system do not have to pay for new equipment in order for U.S.A. to monitor their security system. U.S.A. Fire & Burglar Alarm understands that without great customer service a business will never grow. We strive to give peace of mind to all residential and commercial property owners by having a dedicated team of professionals, who are always honest, knowledgeable, and understanding, providing excellent customer service and unbeatable value. We appreciate your business and hope to continue to service your security needs."

My experience with this company was very good. I called on September 9 to request an estimate for a burglar alarm system in my home and they were able to arrange one for the next day. The salesman, Jerry, was on time and very professional. He provided an estimate for a wireless system that included a control panel, key pad, 3 contacts (2 doors and 1 window), motion detector and inside siren. The total cost was $550 and included 12 months of monitoring at $12.50 per month. Jerry also directed me to an online coupon that enabled me to get a remote panic button for free (a $165 value). The installation was done the following Monday and again, the employees were very professional. The technicians suggested a fire alarm at a cost of $125 and I agreed. The system is obviously very new, but I am very satisfied. I like the fact that this company is local. I have confidence that if a problem did arise, I would be able to speak to a person to have it resolved. I would definitely recommend them.
