business or my home. showed up at our offices to move us at 10:00 a.m.
It then took until 4:30 to pack most of the old office (except for 5
desks-- I only had 10 desks). Sadly at that point the elevator in the
new building broke before they could unload much, so they went back to
the old building to pick up the remaining five desks and returned to the
new office at 10:00 the next day. It then took them from 10:00 a.m. to
3:30 p.m. to unload. So in the end, not counting lunch, it took13.25
hours to move us, when our previous movers (2 years before) completed
the move in 6-8 hours. Moreover, they destroyed 2 book shelves, 1
lamp, took big chunks out of a wood filing cabinet and bookshelf, and
scratched most of our wood desks and conference table -- several beyond
repair.
Then, to add insult to injury, although I had been quoted
$2,600, I was presented with a bill for over $8,000.00. When I strongly
objected and said I wouldn't pay it, I was presented with a bill for
$4,000. I was later told that the first bill was just a "math" error.
All in all it was a nightmare.
The first (packing) crew was very nice and worked hard, albeit they were a bit inexperienced and haphazard with their packing. While they told us they would be back on Thursday, a different crew showed up, and they weren't nearly as friendly or courteous.
The trouble really started when we mentioned moving our shed and garage (they had packed the garage the day prior) and the crew at first refused. We ended up having to call the office to complain, and they finally agreed to move them. However, after agreeing to do so, they ran out of room in the truck (trust me, it was not at all well packed) and eventually refused to come back to finish moving the items that they left behind. It should be noted that we ended up leaving several large items (sofa, kitchen table and chairs, several arm chairs) that our realtor suggested stay in the house for showing purposes, so there should have been ample room in the truck for the small amount of items in the shed and garage.
Once the crew was unloading items at our new house, their manager, Nick, stopped by to check in and apologize for their inability to finish moving items, as well as to discuss the double travel charges. While he blatantly agreed that the double travel charges were "not right" and that we "had a very good point" in not paying, this was apparently not relayed to the crew and the office team, as they both tried to insist as the end of the day that we pay these double charges. Nick explained that the crew didn't have time to go back to move the rest of the items, as they had another move scheduled at 2pm (and didnt finish ours until about 1 or 1:30p), although, once again, why wouldn't they finish ours before moving on to the next one? Nick promised that he'd call Saturday morning around 9am and would be back at the old house by 10am to finish moving the rest of the items personally.
Nick never called, nor did he show up. After calling the office three times on Saturday morning (they kept telling me that they couldn't get in touch with Nick), they finally admitted that there was a strong possibility that he just wouldn't show up. When I asked what I should do, they responded with "try calling next week." So, after waiting around for several hours, I finally gave up and enlisted a friend to help move the remaining items the next day. My final exchanges with their office staff were less than pleasant, as Chiquita, their manager, turned quite rude after I pointed out my frustrations.
Working in a service and labor-oriented business myself, we would NEVER treat our clients the way that Two Men and a Truck treated us. It was an awful experience and we will never, ever again use them for anything.
Setting up the move went fine. The office staff was very friendly and I thought they understood the scope of the project. The day of the move came and the movers did not show up during their window of time. After waiting an hour past the window, I called to find out when they would be arriving. The person I spoke with, again very nice, was unaware they had not arrived for the job. It was nearly 5:00. After another 30-45 minutes, I received a call from the supervisor, also very nice, who explained that the move before mine was running very long. She explained that if they could even get to me at all it would be very late that night. It was already pushing 6:00. Waiting around all night for movers that may or may not come was not going to work, so they rescheduled for the next day.
When the movers finally arrived, both of whom were very nice, they were not equipped physically for the work. I specifically hired movers just for the large, heavy items. We moved the rest of the house ourselves. The two movers struggled to lift and move heavy furniture. They banged my furniture around, nearly dropping items down the stairs that should not have been carried individually. The two did not work well as a team. I also watched in horror as they dropped my elliptical machine off the back of the truck damaging it beyond repair. They failed to strap it down and opened the door while the truck was in motion. It bounced right out of the back and crashed on the ground. While apologetic, the Company now refuses to pay the replacement cost for the machine even though there is no question as to liability and damage.
The move went until late in the evening on a Sunday and put me behind on the rest of the move. I needed the bigger items out so I could determine how the remaining items would be allocated between the storage unit and the other home. I could not simply take work off to move during the week, so I had to wait until the following weekend which meant that construction on my house had to be delayed. While the Company gave me a 20% discount on the price, that really doesn't make up for the lost time and inconvenience.
As noted above, the movers dropped my elliptical machine off the truck. I've had to spend way too much time attempting to get reimbursed so I can replace it at an approximate cost of $1,500.00. After nearly two months, this remains unresolved.
While everyone I've spoken to at the Company has always been nice and fairly responsive, I simply cannot recommend their services to anyone based upon my experience. It's been a nightmare, and has unnecessarily cost me in time and money. Not to mention that I have no idea what condition the items the movers placed in storage will be in when I get them back out. They just did not seem to know what they were doing, or were just too hot and tired to really care.
I did not know where the storage unit was so I called up the place and gave my phone so the moving driver, Frank could get directions. He agreed that I would follow him to the storage but they quickly lost me but I managed to get to the storage facility.Mark said they would take a 15 minute break to drink something and not charge me. I agreed.
The movers arrived 1 hour and 15 minutes later. It took me 15 minutes to get to the storage. By the time they arrived the storage was closed. I was aggravated. When they finally arrived I asked what took them so long and why didn't they call me? Mark, the driver began yelling and swearing at me. He said they tried to call me. I had no record of it on my cell phone. He should me the moving papers and it was noted that someone typed my phone number wrong. Mark, yelled at me that I hadn't given him the location of the storage. He said he didn't know how to get there. I told him to stop lying to me and reminded him of when I lent him my cell phone to get directions. He complained that I had 2 story house. He yelled at me, swore at me and danced in circles telling me he was a man.
I am a 59 year old female and weigh 110 pounds and was by myself with 3 strong movers. We were in an isolated area and business's were closed. I knew I had to play it cool or I could end up raped or killed. Fortunately I have been a psy RN so I calmed him down.
When I got back to my hotel room I spoke with a female manager who was sympathetic. The next day I spoke with the owner. The company charged me $100.00 storage fee overnight which I didn't think I should have to pay since it was the mover's fault they were late. The owner offered me no empathy or concern about happened. Instead he said he didn't know what happened since he wasn't there. I couldn't believe his poor attitude.
On the 2nd day those movers unloaded the truck and placed my things in storage. I requested them not to send me the driver who was so rude to me.
I will never use this company again!
and quot; Two Men and a Truck”sounds like you’d get two men to move two men’s worth of goods in a small truck, but don’t let the name fool you, this is neither a local nor a small company and its business service plan does not include tapping the market for small moves. I needed no more than a small panel truck at to move my stuff less than a mile. I must say that the three (not two) men who came and moved things were very careful and cordial and I tipped them.
Two other flaws during the arrangement of the service: the clerk also forgot to tell me 1), that they don’t move electronics unless they are packed in a container, and 2) that they do supply boxes. Also, they won’t move a piano, but I was told that.
Everyone can be forgiven for forgetting some details of a tedious, routine spiel sometime, but it was wrong of this company franchise not to refund what I spent over the $110.00 quote. And even worse if in fact the parent company does not give its franchises or employees the right to do the right thing. This experience amounted to bait and switch.
The final cost was actually less than the estimate because we finished up an hour early.
The walk through went fine, my husband went to the closing and we headed to the Northshore. The owners of the new place were suppose to be out by 11a.m., it was now 2:00 and she still had a whole garage full of stuff not moved out. I told the guys to ignore her and start moving it in! They got it done in 3 hours! A lot more drama went on, but it had nothing to do with the movers. These guys were very respectful, they said please, thank you and yes ma'am. Did we have to dangle a couple carrots in front of them? Yes, did they deserve the pizza lunch and the 20% tip? YES, YES, YES!!!
Now, I also want to tell you that, we were quoted $1500 and were charged $1700 and our furniture was scratch up because of the fact that we were hurrying them a lot. I talked to the manager of the company several times during the day. She kept things moving and really stayed on top of what was going on during the day. At the end, she called and said, and quot;I know we got off to a rough start, but how was your service over all?and quot; I told her I was very satisfied, but the quote was off by $200 and our furniture was quite scratched up. She took $200 off our bill and they sent a repair man over the next day who repaired all the scratches on our furniture!!! I was blown away, by this service! I have NEVER heard of a moving company sending someone out to repair scratches!
Two Men and a Truck is a 1st class moving company!! I would highly recommend them! Did we have some snags? Yes, but they were taken care of quickly and professionally. Thank you so much, Two men and a Truck! I will never use any other company!
Ny complaint is that they did not tell me about the charge for the truck on the phone. When I asked about it they said and quot;it's in the contract we mailed you.and quot; It probably was, right there in fine print.
I have a number of pieces of antique furniture and I can truthfully tell you they DO treat everything as if it was their grandmothers. I would recommend them to everyone and would use them again without hesitation.
