Pep Boys

I came in for an oil change after making an appointment and was told that despite my appointment that I would have to wait an hour. No problem, i agreed to wait. I filled out the paperwork and the employee, Kieth, quoted me a price for the work. I was happy with the price and he asked me sign an agreement for the price, but the price I was being asked to sign for was clearly higher than the price Keith had originally quoted me. When I asked him about this he looked at me sideways and said that price was with tax. But, I pointed out, the price that was displayed as the pre-tax price was still clearly more than the price he quoted me. When I pointed this out he took a hostile tone and said "That's an extra charge every shop will charge you." Then I asked why, if that was the case, why didn't he include that charge in the price he quoted me, as I would be happy to pay it, but I don't appreciate being quoted one price then being asked to sign a contract for a different price with no explanation of the difference. I felt it was a dishonest and misleading practice. At this point Keith blew up, shoved my keys at me and said, with great hostility, "We're not going to touch your car, go somewhere else!" Wow! All I was asking for was an accurate description of the shops charges and for some reason he found this incredibly offensive. But Pep Boys ain't the only show in town, so I went down the street and got my business handled with no problems. So, thank you Keith, for your guidance. You'll be glad to know I'll never go to Pep Boys again, so you'll never have to deal with me or my pesky questions ever again.

The experience with PEP Boys went very smoothly. I went in to replace the brake pads because my car was starting to vibrate on braking. When they looked at it, they said I only needed the front ones replaced. So, they did a tire rotation, replaced the front pads and did an oil change. When they took the car out for a test drive they said it felt a little funny, so they checked the back again just to make sure they were ok. They said they looked fine. I liked that about them. I went in willing to replace front and back brake pads but they said the back ones didn't need it. So I appreciate that.

Everything went well

Everything was okay. There were no problems. I chose them because it is the closest place and they were running an oil change special.

The car sat at the shop for several days before they started work. A former mechanic picked it up for me on 3/26/08 and drove it on the freeway to test it. He noted that no one had test driven it after the work because he had set the odometer trip counter and it was the same as when it was dropped off by the tow truck. It was missing as he accelerated as if the mechanic had installed the distributor and did not make the mark correctly on the timing belt; off one tooth on cog on the distributor. The mechanic, Kristen Norris, set the timing and got an accurate timing, but being one tooth off the valves are out of synch. This makes the engine miss and hesitate. They refused to fix it saying it there was no problem. They lied and said that they had test driven it, but if they had they would have felt it was missing. Then the manager, Anthony Dixon started stone-walling. If they had driven it, they would have known.

These people were slow to give me an estimate and even went over the original quote without notifying me. My rim was damaged when the work was done and they agreed to replace it but never did. They were also quite rude when I confronted them about it later.
