John and Steve are completely trustworthy men of their word. John is not a licensed contractor, bonded, or insured. He does have a wealth of experience and common sense and he is a gifted colorist when it comes to paint. He and Steve are quite fastidious about their work and one can depend upon them to do promptly what they say they can do, even when others say it cannot be done or that no one would do such a job. They work a foreshortened work day, usually arriving about 0800 and leaving by 1500 at the latest, so jobs sometimes take a little longer, but the work is well-done. Many times their workday is determined by weather or "waiting for the paint to dry," so to speak. The overall price is fair, although not at all transparent. As an example of the meticulousness with which they work, the degree of difficulty of a challenge that they will take on that others will not, I cite the modification of rafter tails so that gutters could be hung. John located and then worked with Dominic Godbold of Quality Siding to design a modification of our curved, foreshortened rafter tails so that gutters could be hung. In the heat of the late spring, he made a template of the end of the rafter tail, then scribed each one individually to fit the existing rafter tail, attached the rafter tail extension (now with a plumb end) to the existing rounded-end rafter tail, supported each one with an exactly matching adjacent dummy rafter tail--and did this 188 times! for every other rafter tail around the house and garage, on second stories and above steep roof lines (Steve did the climbing and attaching). Corners were particularly challenging and no two rafter tails were identical. Joints were caulked and the eaves and rafter tails painted black, as well as outdoor shutters. Once the black gutters were up and the blue-grey downspouts were installed, the reclaimed brick and blue-grey stucco of the house just popped to one's eye! Very well conceived and executed! John truly led the project and the dangerous portions would not have been done without Steve.
