Had to scramble - like a maniac - to find her a new apartment in Ruston (as she'd already given up her old apartment), AND find a mover == during the height of student moving == who could move her in 2 days! Found a condo for her to move into, now all I had to do was get her out of her current apartment! In 2 days!
Called Jerry Ross, who is 30 miles away in Monroe. He squeezed us in, and saved my sanity!
Initially I told him I'd have about 30 boxes, from basically a one bedroom apartment on the 3rd floor. He gave me a total and final cost over the phone right then and there. ($367.00 with 2 movers coming, for a 2-3 hour job). No extra charge for last minute move. And he repeatedly assured me that even though it was last minute, he'd be there. (As a nervous parent, I was basically calling every day for reassurance!).
After packing I ended up with closer to 70 boxes! (When you wrap things in bubble wrap, they grow!) So I called him back and said I might need 2 extra men, because it would take forever to go up and down 3 flights of stairs with just 2 men. AND, it was like 102 degrees with 90% humidity. Didn't want to kill the men! Told Jerry I'd be happy to pay for the 2 extra men, to get the job done in a timely and more comfortable manner.
Ended up paying $133.00 more for the 2 extra men, but it was well worth it. I would have paid a bit more than that anyway as it would have taken 2 men longer to complete the job. (It would have added extra hours to get the job completed). So it was fine. And the men didn't die of heat stroke!
His son (whom he is grooming to take over the company), and 3 other men showed up on time. They were courteous and professional, wrapping all the furniture, tv's and artwork in thick moving blankets. They worked fast and NON STOP. Non stop.
My daughter had everything a home would have except the washer-dryer, stove and refrigerator. She had the leather sofa, leather loveseat, coffee tables, end tables, large dining table and 4 leather chairs, kitchen boxes, bathroom boxes, media center, queen headboard and footboard, mattress and boxspring, electronics, canvas artwork, glass frames, tons of other boxes...you name it! It took 2-1/2 hours. (We basically only had to move about 10 blocks away). But with just 2 men, I KNOW it would have taken 4 to 4-1/2 hours.
(Note: They did take apart and put back together the bed).
When we got to the new apartment, they asked where we wanted things and put them there. Upstairs and down. They unrolled a new 8x10 area rug we had bought and positioned the living room furniture where we wanted it, on top of the rug.
They even emptied out both our car and SUV, and put those boxes away. Something they didn't have to do!
Just above and beyond what was paid for. SUPER customer service.
NOT A THING BROKEN. Nothing. Not a scratch, not a chip, not a dent!
Movers have a terrible reputation. And the vast majority...deservedly so.
NOT THIS COMPANY.
I highly recommend Ross Movers in Monroe, La.
They would be the company I'd call again. Even to move across state.
The ONLY downside is that that do not take credit cards. Check only at this time. However, Jerry's son said they were working on getting a credit card reader (or whatever) set up, so they'd be accepting credit cards in the future.
Thanks Jerry and workers!
