There were like, do-overs on the material I had laid down around the pool. The punctuality of the people showing up was unpredictable. I still have an issue I have to discuss with them. The training they provided to me for managing the pool was really not provided. They just sort of said here was the instruction book, go through it.
"Hello [Member Name Removed], I think you have us confused with another installer. We are based out of Metairie. If you believe I am wrong, please contact me at (504) 346-0335"
As the renovations started and the job progressed, JD rarely was on the job site and never for more than a few minutes at a time. The work was done by one, or occasionally, two men. They would show up at random times, work for 2-4 hours, then leave. As a result, the work progressed fairly slowly through May. The worker(s) helped themselves to several tools in my shed without asking permission. They left my tools lying on the ground right where they were done using them. Once my wife found one of the guys in our garage searching through my stuff looking for supplies.
The concrete work was done in early June, followed by the waterfall construction, then the new plaster. The pool re-plastering was subcontracted out to another company and they did an excellent job. Unfortunately, the waterfall was a disaster. It was not waterproofed! As a result it leaked like crazy! JD tried to waterproof it afterwards without success.
Eventually, he subcontracted this out to the plaster company. The plaster company had to demolition most of the waterfall, waterproof it, and then build it back up. Finally, the waterfall wasn?t leaking, but this process took more than a month to fix.
JD admitted that the original guy doing the waterfall claimed to know how to build a waterfall, but clearly did not. I believe JD fired him at this point, as we never saw him again. The big problem was JD didn?t know his worker, his employee didn?t know what he was doing, and JD was never present to supervise his employee?s work.
The project was finally finished 10/13/15. More than FIVE months after the work started! There were two different times I thought JD had left the job, never to return, because he didn?t show up for several weeks in a row. JD frequently said he would show up on certain day or time, but rarely was there when he said. Except, of course, when it came to pick up checks; he was spot on picking up money.
Construction projects are always a pain and rarely finish on time. But, this was BY FAR the most frustrating project we have suffered through. There were minor issues like leaving the work area a mess, destroying part of our yard/gardens, using my tools, etc. Overall, just not acting professionally.
Our biggest complaints were the lack of communication from JD, lack of supervision of his contractors, and the time it took to complete the project.
JD admitted that ?summer came on strong? and he evidently took on too many projects without enough workers. He over-promised and under-delivered. I would NEVER use this company again.
"Thank You very Much!! Call if you have any more issuers in the future."
We called J. D. back this year to replace our 16 year-old heater and once again he followed through and did a magnificent job. I would recommend him and his company to anyone and would gladly give him an A+ rating!!

When we called them, they came out and asked us questions about what shape and size of pool we'd like as well as what kind of style we were thinking about. They took measurements of the yard. They brought photos of past jobs.
JD created a 3-D rendering of what our pool and spa would look like. This helped greatly, and we were able to see where we wanted to change aspects of the design before ground-breaking. They took care of getting the permits and lining subcontractors up.
Our property is unique, and the very narrow entry into our yard to bring in an earth mover proved to be a challenge. We also had so many rainy days which delayed the project, but JD brought in pumps to drain out the vast hole. It was a very difficult dig (the toughest according to them), but JD and Jim had planned carefully for this and it all went very well.
There was always either JD or Jim supervising each day of the project. They return calls, emails, and texts promptly and are very patient with questions and requests.
There were times when my husband and I changed our minds about certain things like coping and water-spitting fixtures (even after the materials came in), and they were both so incredibly patient and nice with our choices.
We have used many contractors in other aspects of our home improvement, and there are many whom we would use again but not feel comfortable recommending to our friends or family; JD and Jim with Serenity Pools are the only ones that we would very highly recommend without hesitation to anyone. They made a daunting project very streamlined and pretty painless. We LOVE our pool and spa, and we get so many compliments when we have friends and guests over.
"Thank You Very Very Much for the great review. We took great pleasure in working on your job. Again, thank you! Of course, if you have any needs or questions, please, do not hesitate to call!!"
