About us
Garey Alimia started at a young age repairing washers and dryers with his father in the New Orleans area. Eventually he decided he also wanted to sell appliances so in 1974 he opened a retail store named A-1 Maytag Home Appliance Center which was an exclusive Maytag store in Gretna, Louisiana. In 1984 he decided to take on other brands so the store was renamed A-1 Appliance. By this time Garey had 3 locations which were in Metairie, Gretna and New Orleans. As the years went on he opened 4 more stores for a total of 7. In 1998 he acquired 6 of the ex-Campo stores out of bankruptcy which also put A-1 into the Electronics business and the name was changed to A-1 Appliance & Electronics. Some of the stores were consolidated which made for a combined number of 8 stores in the New Orleans metropolitan area. A-1 Appliance & Electronics continues on as the largest Independent Appliance & Electronics Retailer in the New Orleans area and belongs to the largest buying group, Nationwide Marketing Group, in the United States. A-1 has the largest selection and the Guaranteed Lowest Prices on the top Major brands in the Industry.

In February 2013, I purchased a Frigidaire Pro Series suite (refrig, gas range and dishwasher) from A-1. I was told the refrig and range would be delievered separately from the dishwasher, and that their installer would deliver and install the the dishwasher, the same day, but would charge me separately as there could be additional parts, lines, etc. needed that could not be determined until the install. All went according to plan, with the person installing the dishwasher verbally telling me the cost, which I paid by check.
This past October (2014) the high pressure hot water fitting under the dishwasher burst while we were away, sending a torrent of steaming hot water that ruined the wood floors, baseboards, sheetrock, etc. on one entire side of the house. I called A-1 and they said they couldn't send someone out until later in the week and we were on our own and to call our own plumber, etc. They refused to give me the name of the installer, their insurance company, etc.
We called a plumber who came out that morning, looked at the dishwasher and stated the fitting and line used for the hot water intake was totally inappropriate for dishwasher use and in fact, was a low pressure, cold water toilet braided line and plastic valve! He also noted the line had been jammed between the dishwasher and concrete subfloor, kinking it. We also called ServePro the same day for the flood damage, and they too confirmed the line should never have been used. I called A-1 back to give them a chance to view the damage, line, valve, dishwasher, etc. but they declined. Because the appliances were under extended warranty, I called their service desk (after getting the number from the store) who finally sent a service tech 4 days later. He said because it was an install problem and not a dishwasher warranty issue, he couldn't touch. But---what he did do was look at the line and said "I've never seen that used in a dishwasher before; that looks like a toilet fitting and line." I asked if he would put that in writing, so he called his boss at A-1 who said only if I gave the them $80.00. I turned him away, of course, with some choice words for his boss.
I then sent a demand letter to A-1 who turned it over to their insurer, State Farm, who later denied the claim, based on the fact that A-1 claimed (lied) to them that I hired my own contractor to pick up the dishwasher at their warehouse and had it installed myself. I didn't know the installer from Adam nor whether he worked directly for or was contracted by A-1 but suffice it to say, they sent him with my dishwasher to install it, then lied about doing so.
Legal action is now being taken and I have since learned the installer was Jenpe Services, who an unsuspecting A-1 salesperson in a different store told me was one of only 3 "exclusive" A-1 installers. I have retained both the valve and line for evidence, and have several plumbers lined up to give their opinion on it.
Don't EVER use A-1!! They are dishonest.
