My problem is not so much his work; it is his honesty.  I paid him $888 to order french doors for the patio.  He said he ordered the doors and they would arrive in three weeks.  Suddenly, a storm destroyed the compressor in my air conditioner.  In a hurry for air conditioning in this intense heat, my daughter gave him one of my blank checks, which I had previously signed and dated,  to buy a new compressor (he said he did not know how much it would cost).  Next day, he had repaired the air conditioner, and I asked the amount of the check. He replied $436.  His bank called two days later and ask if I had written him a check for $2000.00.  Thanks to the diligence of his bank, I stopped payment on the check in time.  I checked my bank account and the $888 for the doors had cleared my bank.  I checked with Lowes - no doors had been ordered.  When I confronted him, he said he had ordered the doors.  I told him that the deal was off and I wanted my $888 back.  I have not heard from him.  I have filed a report with the sheriff's office and if my money is not returned by the end of this week, I will file charges and request a bench warrant for his arrest for what the sheriff's office referred to as "home improvement fraud".
