Plumber showed up on time.  I showed him the work.  He left for 30-45 minutes to get necessary supplies.  After returning there was an issue with the main shutoff valve so he worked on other items until help arrived for the main shutoff.
Work was completed in a workmanship like manner.  He took short smoke phone/smoke breaks outside.  He resolved any questions or issues that we had.  The only thing left for me is to repair the sheetrock around the washing machine box.  He explained that would be my responsibility before starting.
Overall I am very happy with the work done.

Experience was negative from the beginning.  The plumber who arrived immediately announced that all the problems we were experiencing were caused by having the house leveled (about four years prior to the plumbing call).  The team of three (sometimes four) workers were loud and obnoxious, and very unprofessional.  After several hours of beating and banging under the house (and digging a hole in the yard, for some unexplained reason), the plumber in charge of the motley crew knocked on the front door to present the bill and say goodbye.  He was not planning on fixing any of the problems his "repairs" caused inside my home -- including a toilet that was knocked completely off its seal.  The plumber reluctantly agreed to re-seal the toilet, and he and one of the "helpers" made a terrible mess in the bathroom and did a half-way job fixing their damages.  The worst part, though, was lodging my complaints with the office, and being told they intended to charge me for the original work and the time/materials needed to fix their mess ups.  I paid them this time, but I will never use their services again.
Response from PISTOL'S PLUMBING HEATING & DRAIN CLEANING
"The work performed at this customer's house was in January 2010 & the approximate total is incorrect, our company performed jobs for her in the month of January which totaled up to be $593.70. The first day out was on 1/6/10 & we sent out one plumber only who checked out the job, located the customer had been using her toilet & the sewage had been flushing onto the ground for quite some time due to a broken line. Advised the customer to stop using this toilet & let the area dry up, so we fix the broken line. We sent two men back out on 1/13/10 (one plumber & one helper), who cut into the cast iron piping under the back west side of the house, they ony repaired the line (didn't replace). The men used 2 ft of 4" piping, 3- 4" ferncos, & 1- 4" pvc wye. They did find the house had been releveled in the past which could have caused some of the customer's break of the cast iron pipe in this one area & the sewage had been draining on the ground for quite some time. But the plumber also noted on his ticket that all of the cast iron piping is bad & needs to be replaced. The customer didn't want to replace all of the piping, so we only repaired the immediate problem as per the customer's request. We do accept & take care of any problems in which we would have caused, the customer specified there was a problem with the toilet seal & the plumber did take care of reseting the toilet at no charge to the customer, even though it was not caused by the work the plumber had performed. The customer also stated the men left a mess in the bathroom; our men are taught to clean up after themselves & I had no knowledge until now of any mess occurring at this job site. I also had no knowledge of the customer's complaint of the individuals being loud & she stated they were banging on pipes; I am sorry for any inconveince this may have caused to the customer, but sometimes plumbing work can be a little noisy depending on the type of work being performed & the men were working under the house, which would have been easily heard from inside the home. The total for the bill for the work performed on 1/6/10 & 1/13/10 was $473.70. The customer called us to do another job on 1/15/10 & we sent out one plumber & one helper. The men found the main sewer line was stopped up in the front yard (this work is different from the repair to the line under the house that we had done prior to this). The plumber & helper dug up an area in the front yard to gain access to the main sewer line & found a hole in the sewer line, they rodded the sewer line with the sewer machine from the hole in the line to unstop it & also flushed the line out with lots of water to make sure the line was clear. He recommended to the customer that we could cut into the existing sewer line in the yard & install cleanouts for it to be proper, would also be easier access to rod the line in the future when the customer has a stop up. The customer stated she would call back when ready to perform the work (just a recommendation, the customer decides what work they want performed). The work performed on this date was $120.00 (the helper was there at no charge to the customer, we charged the customer for one hour for the plumber only & one machine fee to rod the line). Our office personnel is always willing to assist our customers & will go out of our way to please our customers. Our office didn't tell the customer that she would be charged for anything we caused or any mess ups; it was explained to the customer that her home needed a lot more work to correct her existing plumbing problems & of course we would have to charge to complete this work. The customer didn't want to complete the work in which was recommended; therefore, only the immediate problems in which she allowed & approved for us to perform where completed."

"I have searched through our computer & our records, I have no customers listed with this last name. I think the customer may have gotten our company confused with another company, as I have no records of us going out to their home."

I called Pistols Plumbing at 8:00 am on Thurstay morning to see if they could help check my gas system. They said that they could send some one over that morning. The plumber and his helper arrived at 9:45 am. I told them what I needed done. They took a few minutes to survey the job, made a list of the items that needed to be changed or modified. One got to work while the other had to go get some supplies that they did not have on the truck. He returned shortly and started working on other jobs in the house. After a short lunch break they returned and completed the job at 1:00 pm. After loading their tools and euipment on the truck the plumber went back over the jobs that they had performed. He noticed one issue with the way that the helper had piped up the water heater safety relief valve to the drain. He made a teaching moment of this by showing the helper and me the proper way to do the job and explain to us the reason the code called for it to be done this way. He made sure to tell me that this time would not be put on the total time for the bill. At the end of the service call I was very pleased with the way that I was treated. They had made sure to show me each job that they neded to do and explain why it needed to be done, and then showed me the result of each job after it had been completed.

We had a slow running toilet ever since we bought our house three years ago. Occasionally, the toilet would overflow. My husband called Pistol's and spoke in depth with the receptionist. She was friendly and knowledgeable. She was up front about the higher cost to us due to the fact that we live 40 miles from their business, but we did not want to use our small, local plumbers due to a previous bad experience. The plumbers arrived on time. They were extremely competent. The toilet was a simple fix with an auger. The plumber even told us where to buy a good, professional auger in case we ever needed it. My husband was at work while the plumbers were here, and I did not understand all the technical terms, so I called him at work and the plumber was kind enough to speak with him at length and tell my husband exactly what was being done. After the toilet was fixed, I remembered that our drain plug in the master bath had not worked since we moved in. I had been using a rubber stopper. I asked the plumber if he would look at it, which he did. I was surprised when he told me that it was not hard to fix and that my husband could probably do it. I was impressed that he was honest and not trying to milk us for more money. I asked him to fix it anyway, knowing that my husband was busy and would probably put it off indefinitely. The plumber left to buy the part at a local company. He was back a short time later and began to fix the drain stopper, but he was not happy with the quality of the part. He told me he'd like to get the part at the store he regularly uses, but it would be several days before he could return. I agreed. He was back a few days later and fixed it. I threw away the rubber stopper. The work was not cheap, but they were up front about the costs right from the beginning. I am extremely impressed and would recommend Pistol's Plumbing to everyone.

My family has used Pistol's Plumbing for at least 30 years, maybe closer to 40. They are always extremely professional and reasonably priced. They call before they arrive and take great care to keep you informed about what they are doing. They are also very concerned about "making things right" and giving good advice. I wouldn't trust anyone else with my plumbing!

So far so good. I have not had any overflowing of the washer and I love my new tub-sink.
