Areno Construction LLC

Description of Work: We are building a new home and hired Areno Construction, LLC to do the dirt work, slab, frame the interior walls and do the drywall work. We specifically ask that the height of the slab for the attached garage be a few inches below the house slab to prevent water/dirt from getting into the house. The slab is the same height all over, there is no difference in the house or garage. When I brought it to Mr. Areno's attention, he said the parish inspector required that the inside house slab and garage floor be all the same level. I called the inspector and ask if this was done on his instructions and he said no. I went back to Mr. Areno and told him the inspector denied telling him anything about the slab so he next blamed the owner of the metal building company who constructed the outside walls. So I called the owner of that company and he also denied telling Mr. Areno anything about the slab work. The framing for the interior walls had to be reworked. We wanted 12' ceilings in the great room and the workers put up 9' walls. Mr. Areno went on vacation in Florida, the supervisor that was suppose to be running the job was not on site and the workers spoke no English for us to communicate concerning the mistake. Not only was this an added expense for us to fix but also the time it has taken has put us behind on our schedule to complete the house. When my husband told Mr. Areno this was no way to conduct business, Mr. Areno became verbally abusive. We paid him what we owed him for services and materials provided and told him we would take care of the rest of the construction. Since we paid him almost all in cash we had him sign a "to whom it may concern" letter stating what had been paid to him and his assurance that any subcontractors/ providers had been paid in full. Today I was informed that Todd Areno, the owner of Areno Construction, LLC has neglected to pay for the concrete for the slab and the provider is going to place a mechanic's lien against our property if we do not pay for the concrete, again. Areno Construction, LLC not only does shoddy work, the owner of the company is a liar and a deadbeat.
