Despite claiming to have 12 years of experience, the representative of Valdez Relocation that came to my home to do an estimate ended up being off by 30% in the end. Since it was a non-binding estimate there was nothing I could do. They offered no explanation or apology, and stopped returning my calls and emails once they had their money. I made the mistake of assuming that someone who told me they'd been doing this for 12 years would be closer than 30% off. Dishonest or just incompetent? I'll never know - and I'll never get that money back. The packers did an OK job. In my un-professional they used way more boxes than necessary (e.g. they packed one box with nothing but a lamp shade in it) but I suppose they'd rather err on the side of caution. They were quick and didn't break anything. The driver and loaders were pretty good. They were on time at both ends of the move and there was virtually no damage to our stuff. Both the driver and packers indicated to me that the estimate was probably off, but that wasn't under their control.
