I stayed an extra two days beyond the lease and the manager and I agreed that two days' rent should be deducted from the security deposit. He then wanted an extra $550 for undocumented criticisms of the condition of the property. Bottom line, he refunded the deposit minus the agreed-upon two days' rent, but not before he engaged in a fit of unprofessional conduct, angrily denouncing my character and heaping criticisms upon me. During the meeting, I offered him an extra $190 "for his inconvenience" (total deduction $310). He said "fine", started to write the refund check, but said "let's round it to an even $400", and I said "no". At that point, he snapped the checkbook shut and declared "you are going to have to wait until the end of the mandatory 30 day period before you get your refund", and ordered me out of the house.
