Don't even waste your time getting an estimate.

Thank God I did not give them a deposit or I would have been so screwed.  My roof had received some damage from Hurricane Katrina.  These guys were going around stating that they would not ask for payment unless the customer was 100% satisfied; They put ads in the paper stating this was the case.  These guys used unskilled immigrant laborers to perform the labor, which was no problem to me, I could care less at that time as long as I would have gotten a good roof. The job took about 6 hours.  After they left, my grandmother goes out and looks at the roof and states it looks worse than the one we had that was damaged from Hurricane Katrina.  She calls me on the phone and tells me the roof is buckled.  The neighbors all come over and knock on my door and ask my grandmother what the h*** happened to her roof.  They call me on the phone (I was out of town) and tell me I have the worse roof in the neighborhood, that they look at the roof from across the block and on the other side of the block and see how buckled the roof is.  The shingled are curling.  There are missing drip guards.  There are openings in the roof that I can stick my hand through and feel the decking because they attempted to stretch the old tar paper over a gap in the roofing and it was the same color as the shingle.  I walked the entire roof - I had less protection with the new roof than I had with the old one because of all of the gaps.  Water had no problem dripping into the inside of the house.  I was never so embarrassed in my life.  Thank God I had not paid them.  They wanted about $7,000. The next day the salesman comes over, does not walk the roof and states the roof is fine.  We call the office and tell them the roof is not acceptable.  The next day the office manager calls asking for payment and we told them the only way they were going to get payment was in the event they put up another roof.  They used a collection agency on us and we threatened to sue the collection agency for nonexistent debt and they backed.  We continued to call Matise Roofing and they would not replace the roof.  The roof was the worst roof I had ever seen in my life.  I think I could have done a better job and I have never put up a roof.  When you look at your roof and everyone on your block has a brand new roof (from Katrina remember?), and your roof looks worse than the one you had from the Hurricane, it's a problem, and a very obvious problem.  They attempted to bully me over and over to pay them and I refused.   Finally, because we had to get a new roof, we hired ANOTHER contractor, which he also used immigrant labor but these guys were very skilled.  No money down, and not only did they redo the roof, but they identified to me a bunch of rotten decking that needed replacing.  They not only did the job right, but they replaced a bunch of decking first, and their price was less then Matise Roofing ($6,500).  These guys were insured and everything.  It did not cost that much to replace bad decking.  They did not reuse any material but brand new material.  When they were through, it looked like a REAL roof.  No buckling, no old tar paper, no gaps, drip guards installed, no water intrusion, just a great roof.  I'll do a separate report on them, because they were professional, they were prompt, and they were paid immediately after the job because after I walked the job, I could see that the roof was a good roof, that everything was squared away.  No punch list, no nothing, they did it, and they got paid.  If Matise Roofing would have did a job like that, I would have paid them immediately.  But because of the roof they put up, and the bad job they did, I could not afford to pay them when I had another contractor I had to pay to get the job done.

Hired them to remove an asphalt shingle roof, install 1/2" plywood decking, rubber membrane slip sheet and a Barridge standing seam metal roof. From the get go I found them not installing the rubber membrane correctly: they were only peeling half of the backing off of it. They told me that the boss (C. Matise) told them to do it that way. What a load. After correcting that they continued with shoddy workmanship. The ridge caps are were not installed correctly and were different sizes on the same run, the ends of the panels were not properly cut so they are not square with the edge of the roof. In addition they did not trim the edge flashing at the eaves. I had another roofing company come survey their work and they said it would cost $5000 to fix what they did wrong. I should have never paid them and would never recomend them!

I found them with the BBB, and noticed they had a website. I visited the website, and it was so educational. They gave complete information about the different types of roofs, and terms that are used, so that when someone comes out to give an estimate, you know what they are talking about. I contacted them for the estimate, and they came out within a few days, which in our city, is amazing. They gave me the free estimate, and I chose them for the work. I was impressed, because they did not want the payment until the job was complete, and I was satisfied with the work. They gave a 10 year workmanship warranty on the roof. I couldn't be more happy with my experience, and the work they did. They even sent me a calendar at the end of the year!
