Gus Moreno arrived and checked out the system. I first began to feel suspicious when he decided he needed to undo all the wiring to the condenser unit. Suspicion rose when he didn't bring any electrical equipment or gauges to use during his diagnosis. It about 15 minutes for him to conclude that our entire system was toast and we absolutely needed to install a whole new one to the tune of nearly $4000. Feeling rightly skeptical, I called my usual guy, who upon arrival noticed that the guy from Diaz had left the panel on my outdoor condenser open and all the wiring disconnected. Very unprofessional! And, as it turns out, the problem was a simple blown capacitor and a clogged drain line, which was able to be fixed for about $200. Diaz air-conditioning is a scammer and a liar. I clearly did not need a new system, yet he tried to sell me one. Do not call Diaz under any circumstances!

After finding ourselves stuck with a $12,000 system that does not cool our restaurant at all in the summer months, we did some research and found that 1) the units were not appropriate for the job in the first place, and 2) we were grossly overcharged. The units are still under warranty. When we came back from summer break they had quit working altogether. We made multiple attempts to contact Diaz Air Conditioning, and no one has replied. We have a restaurant full of very uncomfortable customers, and many people have said it is too hot to dine in, and they will come back when the units are fixed. We had to pay another a/c company to come get them back on, for $1,100, and they still don't work properly. The other contractor told us they had likely been leaking freon for some time. The complete disregard for the investment that we made, the fact that the contract boasts 100% satisfaction guaranteed, and the total lack of accountability is infuriating and astounding. Not to mention the tremendous loss of revenue we have experienced due to the extremely high temperature in the dining room. As a business owner, I could not imagine scamming, and then dismissing my customers. There are many ethical contractors in New Orleans- Diaz Air Conditioning is not one of them.

It didn't go as planned. But, eventually they did come back and finished the job to my satisfaction.

Our A/C unit went out on a Wednesday. We called Diaz Air Conditioning on Wednesday afternoon and had someone come to the house on Thursday morning. Gus, from Diaz Air Conditioning, did an initial inspection of the unit, described what the problem was in detail, and then walked us through all the options we had to fix the problem. He gave us the pros and cons to each option, the estimates of the costs, and answered all of our questions about each option - from least expense (replacing a part) to most expensive (re-doing the whole HVAC system to make it more energy efficient). He was never pushy, but always kind and incredibly helpful. By Thursday afternoon, he had the parts ordered and our new A/C unit was installed and up and running by the next afternoon - even though he had to do all of the work by himself, from hauling in the new unit, to going up and down into the attic, to test runs.

Originally we had Miguel repair the compressor (a $200 job) about a month ago. At that time he replaced a part, but warned us that the unit was old and unlikely to last too much longer. He was right. The motor started to squeal and this time, with Miguel's advice, we decided to replace the whole thing rather than sink more money into an old unit. He gave us several pricing options and credited us for the work done previously in his quote. He even took the extra steps to try to find us a discounted unit. The crew was there the next day and completed the job in an afternoon. Our house is once again cool and quiet.

Owner Miguel Diaz was the most responsive and reliable contractor I've ever worked with. I've supervised two major renovations to a historic New Orleans home due to flood then fire and worked with many different types of contractors including: general construction, plumbing, electrical and HVAC. Most of them were ok - trying to do a good job, but stretched so thin their quality was mediocre at best. The HVAC person who installed my system was a nightmare. When I put my house on the market 3 months ago, I knew the system wasn't great, of course the inspection turned up some flaws and the buyer asked me to make the repairs. A friend referred Miguel Diaz who was doing the work at the Commodore Condo's on St. Charles. He offered a very reasonable price to fix someone else's mistakes (something I suspect few contractors even want to mess with). He even agreed to move me up on his schedule to fit the work in before a tight closing date - then Gustav hit and screwed the schedule even more, but again he fit me in first thing Monday morning after the storm and did the work, even though he had a more lucrative geo-thermal project in the French Quarter to do. When the buyers requested additional work the night before the closing he showed up at my house at 7 pm and patiently listened to their questions and complied with their requests for extra tape on the ducts and plenum that night so we could close on schedule. He even improved the design of my attic ladder after hearing them complain without being asked. I highly recommend Diaz Air Conditioning to anyone in the New Orleans metro area.
