We had much too much breakage.
The antique clocks were both broken in several places, despite the specialty packing.
The 1835 mahogany buffet was scarred and gashed.
They lost one leaf from the dining table. During several months' storage, a moving blanket melted onto our dining table finish. The matching buffet had the finish rubbed or scraped off on the front edge. These pieces were from a major manufacturer (Thomasville) and had a very normal construction.
There was impact damage to an antique 3-tier table.
Two legs were ripped off of 2 of the 4 antique nesting tables.
There were other minor types of damage.
We filed the claim promptly and in their preferred form, with complete documentation (pictures, appraisals and other verification of value). We requested repairs, rather than a monetary settlement. They offered an acceptable clockmaker, but we never got credentials or references from their furniture repair person after repeated requests. Therefore ,we asked for a monetary settlement.
Their parent moving company denied the claim for 3 items, claiming that the melting, impact and scraping were due to "inherent vice [in the furniture] including susceptibility to damage because of atmospheric conditions."
They offered $1870 to repair the furniture, in total. And it has taken us 4 months and numerous follow up emails and phone calls to get that offer.
I cannot properly express how unhappy I am.
