I was shocked at the lack of thoroughness when I brought in a dog, who had previously had mast cell cancer, to have a new lump checked out. He spent about 1 minute feeling the lump and declaring a lipoma (fatty cyst) and said he needed surgery because it would interfere with his ability to walk. . He failed to check the rest of the dog for lumps.
His failure to check the rest of the dog caused me to take him to another vet-who checked his whole body carefully and found 3 additional new lumps, which she biopsied. She said the lump would absolutely NOT interfere with walking (and a year later he's fine) and that surgery was not necessary. She spent twice as much time with the dog and dharged much less-and saved us and the dog an unnecessary and expenssive surgery.
