Home Building
I was given a bid and was told they could start as soon as I said, Let's Go. Well, everyone else I has spoken to down here for remodels can't start for 6 months. So I was going with this company. Luckily the carpenter crew that Plantation hired was very good and no other subs were needed due to this crew had a licenced electrician and plumber. Problems started shortly after the start of the job. There was next to no job management by the GC and a lot of the specialty items that were actually written in the bid didn't even get done because they weren't relayed to the carpenter crew. That was a Huge let down for me because I made it so clear what I wanted, and they were just forgotten with nothing to try to make it right. A debris flatbed came twice during the entire job, and I actually had to do daily clean-ups and sneaky dumpster runs. Plantation got the initial sheetrock and lumber, but after that, I was making and paying for all the material runs and strapping lumber and plumbing items on my vehicle. The GC also requested too many draws while the job was in progress. I will pay up to 50% but only pay the rest when it is completed. Overall this was a nightmare remodel and I wish I would have done my homework. His markup was ridiculous because of his lack of participation on the job I felt I worked my butt off on this job. I felt I needed to give him an invoice for my work actually doing his job.. One thing that really puzzled me was that he invoiced me to pay his workers comp and even put his O&P markup on the workers comp premium. That should be part of his overhead cost. I usually would never give a bad review if it wasn't deserved, but this company did nothing to make sure I was okay with the way things turned out. If it wasn't for the good work that the carpenters did, things would really be in a legal mess.
