DUCTZ of Southern Maryland

About us

At DUCTZ of Southern Maryland we take pride in giving you the best air duct, dryer vent cleaning services available. Cleaning your ducts and dryer vents in your home and/or business the right way, the first time is our top priority. At DUCTZ we make sure that you are getting the services you not only expect but you deserve. Quality customer services is only one of our many professional goals, we strictly adhere to the National Air Duct Cleaners Association Standards as well as the Environmental Protection Agency standards and EPA checklist. Your air ducts can become a major source of indoor air pollution. Every time you run your heating and cooling system, airborne contaminants build up inside the ductwork, creating a breeding ground for mold, bacteria, fungi, and other microbes. These contaminants can also significantly decrease the efficiency of your heating or cooling system. Air duct cleaning is a proactive solution to these problems. It can enhance the indoor quality of your home or business, eliminate build-up dirt and contaminants, and extend the life of your heating and cooling systems. Commercial or residential dryer vents are cleaned periodically to reduce the risk of fire. The national fire protection association reported facts and figures that in In 2010, an estimated 16,800 reported U.S. non-confined or confined home structure fires involving clothes dryers or washing machines resulted in 51 civilian deaths, 380 civilian injuries and $236 million in direct property damage. Clothes dryers accounted for 92% of the fires; washing machines 4%, and washer and dryer combinations accounted for 4%. The leading cause of home clothes dryer and washer fires was failure to clean (32%), followed by unclassified mechanical failure or malfunction (22%). Eight percent were caused by some type of electrical failure or malfunction. Additional Phone Number: (443)-937-5119

An absolutely impressive company! Dirk was able to give a quote over the phone as I was able to describe in detail our geothermal HVAC system, type, placement and number of trunk lines and registers. He had an opening just a few days out and his crew, Nick and Rob, showed up exactly on time. Base price was $575 for cleaning the supply, return and 15 registers. Time spent was about five hours and they both worked diligently. They did not mind me looking over their shoulders and asking literally dozens of questions. I cannot even begin to image what those $99 outfits do - probably just shove a shop-vac hose down each register. Ductz performs their cleaning according to the NADCA standards and they did exactly what was described on [*** Link removed ***] I was shocked to see what had been collected in their high-powered suction/filter box. Unfortunately they also found microbial growth (i.e. mold) in my air handler (wires and blower motor), and in two registers. For an extra charge of $500 (explained up front) they completely removed, disassembled, and pressure washed the blower motor. They cleaned all the wiring, condensate tray and line, and air handler insulation. They also did a thorough wet cleaning (think low-pressure power washer) of the coils with a special cleaning solution. Finally they sprayed anti-microbial fog throughout each duct and register to prevent further growth. In total Nick and Rob were here for over seven hours. I observed them pretty much the whole time and there was no sitting around - just plain professional hard work. Yes, it was expensive, but they earned every penny. I have already recommended them to several friends and would not hesitate to do so to anyone else. I can't believe there is anyone out there to equal them!

The whole experience was incredible from start to finish. They were highly professional, courteous, diligent, and polite. The owner (Dirk) came out to give a free estimate and then we decided to accept the contract. Nick and Rob came out to do the work and they were phenomenal from start to finish. The biggest thing that was done was to remove an old leaking humidifier that was a source of mold. The humidifier, like all humidifiers, was set up to blow humid air throughout the house. Instead, it was blowing mold throughout the house. As of right now, the mold smell is gone and the inside air smells ultra clean. This was worth every penny.

Based on a recommendation from our realtor to remediate the stench of cigarette smoke from our home (unfortunately we had renters who misrepresented themselves and smoked thus breaking the lease) we first met Dirk Thorne and his company Ductz of Southern Maryland in an attempt to remediate or eliminate the smell of cigarette smoke.  Mr. Thorne responded immediately due to the fact that we were in town but for a short time.  Mr. Thorne was completely honest and open with us saying that what he proposed to do was necessary but ultimately insufficient in completely removing the smell of smoke.  Mr. Thorne informed us that we would need to replace the carpets throughout the house and paint the entire inside of the house, which was beyond the scope of Ductz?s expertise.  Mr. Thorne presented the menu of activities that he would perform and suggested an incremental approach.
Mr. Thorne fumigated the house, then cleaned the air handling system and, finally, thoroughly cleaned the duct work throughout the house (2,500 square feet).  All work was performed professionally and efficiently and resulted in a noticeable reduction
in the smell of smoke.  The work was done at a reasonable cost and Mr. Thorne was extremely helpful in recommending other
vendors that would help us eliminate the smell of smoke.
We highly recommend Mr. Thorne and his company, Ductz of Southern Maryland, for any work concerned with air quality remediation services including: AC Duct Cleaning; HVAC Duct Cleaning; Dryer Vent Cleaning; and Heating Duct Cleaning.
All work was completed on short notice within a tight time frame and the residence was greatly improved and left frfee of any trace of Mr. Thorne's work.

The company called right away and scheduled the service within a week.  Nick, the service person, showed up exactly when we expected him, did the work, and cleaned up in less than an hour.  He was friendly, courteous, and did his job well.

Dirk, the owner, was very responsive.  He immediately returned my phone call requesting service and scheduled an on-site appointment the next day to look at my home and provide an estimate.  He also provided the name of another service provider to clean the house prior to cleaning our duct work.  Our ducts were cleaned within 5 days of reaching out to this company.  The cleaning team arrived on time and were very professional.  The air quality of our house was noticeably improved afterward.  I would highly recommend this company.

Excellent. I had contacted the NADCA of which he is not a member but practices all of their guidelines. The NADCA will share a "how to buy duct cleaning" with you on their site. I called at least two other vendors and they appeared to be slam, bang thank you ma'am types just interested in closing the deal and moving to the next. We had mold, this is very serious business, I wanted to make sure the remediation was done as good as possible. Kirk came out to give an estimate whereas another just wanted to know how many vents I had. He looked into the HVAC unit and all of the suspect ducts. In short he was efficient in creating his quote which if I recall was about $125 more than the next highest. His son and he performed the work, they were meticulously efficient and unrelenting in making sure every possible surface was careful scoured. Kirk is polished, patient and competent. If he is still the high price it is worth the peace of mind. Get educated at the site, interview a couple vendors besides him and compare, I bet you choose him. Ps I just rejoined Angie's list---I believe I paid him $500 last fall but that is a rough number and yours will probably vary anyway depending on the extent of work needs.
